Baserunning, basestealing settings!

Jeez, These things confuse the hell out of me. I understand, kind of, the closer and bullpen usage settings but can't work out whether to go for conservative or extra con on the other settings; bunting and baserunning etc. Currently I use Conservative but not for any particular reason. I set them at the start of the season and leave them. I am just scared of the extra conservative and normal settings. Should I be??

What I do is immediately mark the cards of those hitters with a D or E steal rating "don't steal". Those with particularly good steal ratings get marked "steal more". The others stay unmarked. Then, before each series I check out the opposing pitchers' hold ratings. Together with the opposing catcher's arm rating, I decide whether to set my manager settings to normal or aggressive. Either way, the slow guys won't be running. If the aforementioned hold ratings and catcher's arm aren't too worrisome, I let the rest run a bit more. If the other team looks pretty good at dealing with the run, I haven't seen a normal basestealing setting result in a lot of caught stealings.

Regarding aggressive baserunning, the most important factor is the opposing CF's arm rating. If it is -1 or worse, I generally set my manager settings to aggressive. However, if there's some real guns in RF or LF (or both), I'll scale that back a bit. I just wish you could mark individual player cards to not try to take that extra base, so you could have a bit more control over that as you do with basestealing. My two cents...

So on balance you go nowhere near conservative and prefer the normal or aggessive settings? Aggressive scares me a lot. I still am not sure about normal basestealing and running though. I mark all players with poor steal ratings as "don't steal" but don't yet mark anyone as "steal more". I usually leave those with 15+ speed as unmarked and leave it to HAL. I just wondered if I should leave the settings at default "Normal". As long as I don't get those players I want to steal, or am not bothered either way, caught then I would like to set it normal.

Doesn't it depend on your team? IF you have a lot of boppers, you just wait for the three run bomb.

True, but what about a team with players like ARod and similar fast, good hitting players? Or those with a variety of strengths? Setting the manager settings to gain a base or extra base, without sacrificing an out can be worth extra runs over a season. It can't just be left to the big hiiters. Both ways are surely needed?
