Drafting Thoughts

Drafting Thoughts

Besides the live draft concept, do people thing we can improve upon the regular draft? Are people besides me in favour of a more proxy-like system, or doing something where if you don't get your #1, you get your #2, etc..?

I like that idea very much. At least TSN has improved the waiver priority system to reflect the difference of if you miss your #1 pick vs your #25 pick. That is an improvement but the system you mention is even better yet.

Yahoo has a "do not draft" option in their autodrafts, should be an option here as well. Picking A. Jones for a MM team and ending up with Edmonds as your consolation, is well, no consolation at all.

After seeing my current team post draft...I wholeheartedly agree.

I've also seen drafts where not only does your draft order get considered (ie, if you don't get your first choice, it drops to your second, etc..), but also implements elements of considering your position priority (with the ability to list your priorities by position).

So your draft order may say Jeter, Ortiz, but if you don't get Jeter, you may still want a SS with your first pick. In this case, you may have set your SS draft priorities as Jeter, Young, etc..

The current system would give you the most comparably priced SS not currently on anyone else's autodraft list....basically meaning you're probably missing out on other top quality SS, since they're on other peoples draft lists.

I think a combo of "if not 1st, then 2nd...along with...if not 1st position choice, then 2nd choice for that position" would go a long way.

I think they should even be able to go more advanced. Where you can say if a do not get Player X ONLY draft a player with ab>480 OBP >360 salary <$5,000,000. That would eliminate some of the goofy picks that you get.

I have just started playing on Strat, normally I play Whatifsports.com. Whatifsports in block by the new corporate firewall but strat is not (go figure) Whatifsports is a much better simulation many of the things people complain about on this site they already have and cost half as much. They do not have a "draft" you pick the players you want and you get them, so two teams and have the same player from the same year. I am not sure if that would work on this site because I believe there is on one Cy Young on whatifsports you can pick him from any year he played. Anyway my point to this is I like it better that I get the players I want and do not have to deal with the draft. I think that should be an option for this site as well, although I am not sure how it would work.

Sure it's nice to get every player you want but, to be honest. Sometimes the most fun I have is when I don't get the players I want in the draft. The days after the draft before the season starts are sometimes my favorite part of the game. Waiting for a player to maybe be dropped, mixing and matching certain palyer's and salaries, making trades and doing whatever you can to put a competitve team on the field. I've taken more satisfaction on a winning team where I was 1st or 2nd in the waiver draft that on one where I got almost all the players I tried to draft. Sure lots of things could be better but, it is what it is.

just my 2 cents

...that being said I'd still like to see the option of larger leagues 16-18 teams

maybe even 24 teams, 2 leagues, 12 teams in each with 3 divisions per league.

just put 2 leagues together larger play format. 8 teams make the playoffs. 1 free team for every playoff team and still 2 for the champion.

Excellent idea Roscodog! Creating leagues of greater than 12 teams seems like a great idea for an advanced option.

It would make things even more competitive and those "bargain" players that much more important
