Actually, you are quite wrong. ALL sabermetricians admit that defense still defies good mathematical measurement, and that properly determining ability with the glove is very subjective.

One "old standby" example (there are others) looks like this:

Let's say Ichiro only throws out a handful of runners one year. Why? It's because runners are more cautious about taking an extra base against his cannon of an arm.
