MY FIRST TEAM - PLAY BALL!

My team

Postby BC Manager » Mon Nov 07, 2005 8:17 pm

It's been an adventure deconstructing and reconstructing my team. Thought I'd share my results. I'm curious what it's been like for others, too.

(For future reference, rather than continuing to say undroppable or original repeatedly, [b:f6a5edadc3]let's just use an asterik to denote these players.[/b:f6a5edadc3])

C-

Miller*, fortunately is a decent C in '05, as he was in '01
Valenin makes for a cheap platoon-mate/backup.

IF-

Thomas* actually has a fairly decent card, despite the injury.
Olerud* makes a good D replacement and sub for Thomas.

Boone* - great D; not the monser he was in 01, though.

Greene - hated giving up Jeter, but needed the cap space. Hopefully Greene will hit lefties and not be injured too much, given who's backing him up (Feliz).

Chavez - love his '05 card, despite the injury. Good match for my ballpark and opposing pitchers.

Feliz* - will be backing up 1st, 3rd and SS and is likely to see lots of action given I have high injury players at each of those positions. At least he has good power vs. all pitchers.

OF-

Dunn* (who will also be DH/1B)- my team's success is reliant upon Dunn having a monster year. The potential's there with his 05 card.

Patterson - Seems like the best option in CF for my team. Don't know what to expect.

Freel - Also a key part of my offense. He better get onbase like he's supposed to.

Williams* - At least he's DH-able against lefties.

Mondesi* - Any appearances he makes do not bode well.

SP-

I've literally had to build my pitching staff around my * players. I'm happy with my top 4: Radke, Wise, Peavy, Benson. Then it's "pray for rain" with whoever gets the spot starts between Garland*, Ortiz*, Estes*. Ortiz* may be relegated to pitching batting practice.

RP-

The Lidge/Nathan combo are expected to log a lot of work. Rincon* and Hasegawa* will hopefully only see short and infrequent outings.

Overall, Victoria fans are hopeful they can see the type of success they saw 3 years ago, but they're skeptical. I may need some over-performances. My division opponents look daunting. May SFLeftfielder be injured every time he comes to town!

The KlingonsReprise is based on a team that logged 101 wins in 2001. I don't expect that this time and frankly am pretty worried about this team despite the sweep last night.

Lets start with the pitchers: With three pitchers parks (counting my comerica) in the division it is going to be very hard for this rotation to compete. Weaver*, Batista*, W Williams, Od Perez, and Lidle* make up a mediocre rotation that comes well short of the rotations in the other two pitchers parks. It was much worse at the start, though, as williams, perez, and lidle* are all improvements. I got good AD picks for the RPs, but had to give up Nathan (glad you like him, BC) to remake the rotation. Looper, Calero, and E Ramirez anchor a decent pen that is going to see a lot of work.

Most of my salary cap for the hitters went to rolen*, edmonds*, Izturis* and C Guillen*. Abreu* was also supposed to be among that group but got Sheffield instead. Sheffield is now with the Dudes in a deal that brought me Lidle* (for Sparks*) and M Cabrera. That deal may come back to haunt me but I badly needed an everyday LFer. The team is weak at 2b (J castillo/kata) and 1b (giambi*/conine*).

Overall, fans are hoping the team can overcome it's many challenges and be competitive.

My Team

Postby FRANKZAHN » Tue Nov 08, 2005 11:04 pm

My first team posted an amazing 60-102 won-lost record.

In the draft I was able to get five pitchers and 11 hitters.

C Lo Duca and Huckaby
1b Sweeney and Zeile
2b Fox
3B Derosa
Outfielders, Ramirez, Biggio, Robinson, Everett, and Walker.

About the only players I would want to keep are Manny and Walker. LoDuca and Biggio are Ok but not defensively.

Fox and Huckaby are totally worthless.

Pitchers retained were Beckett, Patterson, DAmico, Worrell and Halama

I had to build a complete starting pitcher staff in the waivers and free agency. They are OK but not spectacular. Spent most of the money on relievers, figure they will have to be used a lot.

One suggestion I would make for the next time a league like this is formed is to be able to drop players from the original team after the season starts. I assume this is not allowed but we could have dropped them in the original league. I think paying the 20% penalty is pain enough. It was difficult to put together a team with all those roster positions filled with worthless players (05 cards).

Hope I get more than 60 wins and I will be happy.
