Those post-game comments (with the nightly results)...

I love em. Who writes them? And how does that work? Is it all computer-generated or does SOM have a zillion writers working non-stop like army ants (somehow I doubt that)? Sometimes the comments give me a giggle or two...especially if it's after a big come-from-behind win.

Most are the creation of TSN. Before last season there was a TSN hosted thread to offer new suggestions. Some of these have been adopted.

I see. Great idea with the post-game quotes. I particularly like it when the comment is quoting me, the manager, after either a tough loss or whatever. I do notice it seems that the manager is quoted much more when his teams loses a tough game though. The tone usually reminds me of something Bruce Bochy would say. In fact I picture Bochy when I read these manager quotes.

One Thing Missing from "Post Game"...

Postby zonachoke » Tue Apr 03, 2007 4:24 pm

from http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2007/league/boxscore.html?group_id=682&g_id=14

[quote:0a865589b2="the post-game wrap-up"]
Zona had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

[i:0a865589b2]...then from the box score & play account [/i:0a865589b2][/quote:0a865589b2][code:1:0a865589b2]
Znakez.......... 2 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 4 13 2
Artisans........ 0 0 0 3 0 2 0 0 - 5 12 0

. . .

*** TOP OF INNING 9 ***
SUBSTITUTE P - Bob Wickman
0 R.Zimmerman 4 Walk b-1
0 1 L.Berkman 4 Single 1-2 b-1
0 12 J.Rollins 5 Force Play 2-3 1-o b-1
SUBSTITUTE PH- Raul Ibanez
1 1 3 R.Ibanez 1 Double 3-H 1-o b-2
2 2 L.Castillo 3 Ground Out b-0
[/code:1:0a865589b2]
For newbies at interpreting the play account, this means, down by a run with 1 out in the top of the 9th... fleet-footed Jimmy Rollins got nailed at the plate trying to score (the would-have-been tying run) from first on Ibanez' double.

The OF who got the assist was not named in the play account, the post game wrap-up, nor in the box score. This was the key play of the game... and no mention who's responsible.

The Post Game comments (PC Game or SOMO) have never mentioned key defensive plays (perhaps because it's too hard)... still, I want to know who gunned down my guy... and after I pay for a (-3) arm in CF, I want to know when and how I'm getting some return on my investment.

totally agree with the outfield arm comment. Also, wouldn't it be cool to see dice rolls and split rolls to know if that "1" in the infield got you the double-play? or when you go with a "3" at SS to know just how many hits that cost you over the course of a series / season?
