I know it's early, and I know we're playing in Fenway, but check out his numbers after 3 games ............

Yes I used him once and he was continually killed. I think that's how he got his name.

I avoid him now.

When Munich Man and Charlie both tell me Killian sucks, I have a feeling it's gonna be a long season for him!

You guys are killing me .......... :o

Don't jump off the bridge yet. Guys, I believe the numbers on these cards make this one giant math problem. They don't have souls. Do the math, diamonddope rates Killian right around the same ratings as Dinneen, Zachary and a tad better than Dizzy Dean, his card is significantly better than Whitey or Brecheen. Now Fenway will kill almost everyone. I have seen grown men cry in Fenway. Garcia, Ames, even Three Finger with eras approaching 5.0. I have used Killer three times, went to game six of a series with the Killer. Always at or above .500 with wins and loses. One year had a 3.5 era, others were 4.4 and 4.9. He is a solid number three or four starter. Don't get scared off. I routinely use four day rest starters in 100 mil leagues. I usually go with Reulbach, Lanier, Lundgren or Taylor, then Killer, then a cheapo like Zahniser or Winter or Gibson. My homeruns are always significantly lower than my own offensive homeruns. Killer can throw 8 innings and there is a .3, homerun on his card. Relax.

Why not put Clark in right field. And then platoon Killebrew with Mazilli at first base. Killebrew can hit, why is he on the bench. Mazilli could leadoff against righthanded pitchers. I have had more than a couple of excellent seasons with Curly in Fenway. But you need several decent relievers, because they get pulled after six innings. 9-6 is quite nice. Again, I look for cards with 8 or 9 innings and little or no homeruns if you are in a homerun park. I see you have about 40% more homruns than given up. Donovan and Overall and Chalmer, Kerr and Norwood Gibson fit that bill. Munger pitches only 6 innings. I prefer Overall and Donovan over Works. Just a few more thoughts.

DSP,

Thanks for the input. Offense is not a concern of mine, as the team name implies ... A Walk Is As Good As A Hit ... This team is trying to break the team walks record.

The slow pitching start has me a little concerned. I'll give Killian a while longer and see if he comes around.

that's just it. I don't do the math, and I don't use diamonddope (sorry Adrian) or any other card rating system. No matter how many X chances, or other numbers you throw at me, you will never convince me that Killian is a better pitcher than Dean. Real performance simply doesn't bear that out.

You have your number crunchers and your play-by-feel guys, I am firmly in the latter camp, and have had some small degree of success. :D

MM,

That to me is the burning question that no one can answer .......... Why do some guys always seem to perform better than their cards and some guys always seem to do worse than their cards say they should?

Penn insists theirs no hidden code or anything else, the numbers are what they are and yet pitchers like Boyd, Knepper, Nolan, Speer, etc. continually outperform their cards and the cards of higher priced pitchers.

Oh yeah, and Killian got BOMBED again last night, 11 runs in 7 innings.
