Individual Strategy settings

What are the slow hook fast hook settings all about? Is that how fast HAL reaches for a reliever or how fast he pulls a pitcher?

Strategy Settings

Avoid left-handed batters OBVIOUS
Avoid right-handed batters OBVIOUS
Quick hook TAKES PITCHER OUT AT 1ST SIGN OF TROUBLE
Slow hook LEAVES PITCHER IN TIL DOOMSDAY
Mop up NEVER WAS CLEAR ON THIS ONE
Max 6 IP for start OBVIOUS
Max 7 IP for start OBVIOUS
Avoid using during blowout OBVIOUS
Avoid using before 6th inning HAL WILL BRING IN BEFORE IF NEEDED
Avoid using before 7th inning HAL WILL BRING IN BEFORE IF NEEDED
Avoid using before 8th inning HAL WILL BRING IN BEFORE IF NEEDED
Max of 1 to 2 IP in relief OBVIOUS
Max of 2 to 3 IP in relief OBVIOUS
IBB less with this pitcher OBVIOUS

Hal will try to follow your settings but Hal also has a mind of his own . If your starter gets smacked around in the 1st couple innings he will go to the pen and burn through them .

That helped a lot. Does anybody have a crystal clear understanding of the mop up button? If I select that for my closers will HAL use them more regularly? Does it matter if I select two as mop up?

MOP UP

Postby FletchGriswold » Wed Mar 14, 2007 9:35 pm

The "Mop Up" option is basically for situations where you have a relief pitcher who is constantly getting shelled and just hasn't proven himself to be worthy of a roster spot. BUT, there are instances where there are no other viable options, either because the FA pool is drained, or due to the salary penalty for a drop, you're not left with enough cash to pick up another RP. Therefore, in essence, you're stuck with your lousy RP. THAT'S when you want to check "mop up", so HAL doesn't call on him in a key situation. He'll bring him in when you're already getting killed, or have a very comfortable lead, late in the game.

Basically, your Mop Ups are guys who can eat up a few innings when the game is already out of hand, one way or the other. Much like the way I was used when I pitched in college

Why won't HAL use my closers? He has used my closers twice now. Why have closers if HAL won't use them? If this continues I am not playing this game online.

Mop Up - If I have 4 *SP I like a very cheap 5th starter with an R ratings and set them for mop up. Then I can use the BP spots for specialists (hard R/hard L) and hopefully protect them from pitching too much. Make sure and check "Do not use in blowout" for your top RP" This will hopefully force Hal to use your mop up guy in the situations like Fletch described.

ColFalklan, can you share your settings for closer? If you have closer set to Max then he'll only come in when SOM has a close situation (slightly different than real world but I don't remember what it is). Good setting with a cheap closer who you only want to use in those situations.

You may be putting too many limits on Hal.

A link to your team will help also. Who else has closer ratings? Again, I'd set things up differently for Wickman than Wagner.

Col -

It appears you are "new". We don't want you to get discouraged. Please go to your stats page in your league, then click your team name, then copy and paste it here. We will help you with your settings.

It sounds like something is screwed up if you have save situations where your closers stay on the bench. This problem can be easily repaired.

???

How in the heck does maximize usage of closers mean don't use them? I unchecked that hopefully HAL will start using my closers now, so it stops picking Terry Adams to close.

Check the link. There should be an ID number on the end. Like Bleacher said - go the statistics page then copy the link for your team.

I may not be saying this exactly right but "maximize" will use your closer only when SOM considers it a save situation. I usually use the regular setting.
