Sheffield

Sheffield

So who else thinks Gary Sheffield is an awesome value at $1.6? One look at his card, and you see all the black (esp against lefties), and he makes a perfect DH vs Lefties (also an awesome pinch-hitter vs lefties as well). Plus, even though he has a range of 4 in RF, he still has a -1 arm, and can make for a good, cheap, backup RFer. Same goes for Griffey as a DH vs Righties, and a good backup CFer.

Of course, this is because Sheff has a homerun and a double for me in 4 AB. Griffey? 0-8 with 3Ks. I'll get back to this thread as the season progresses, but I like these platooning DHs that only take up $2.7 million.

I don't think Sheffield is an "awesome" value. I think his price is too high for a "5" injury ratting to be an awesome value. I like Griffeu much more for .67 cheaper with less injury chance and a better defensive rating at a more important position.

At Sheffield's price, as long as I can get 3 or 4 games out him before he pulls a hammy, he's an awesome value. How can 1.6m be "too high?" That's a borderline scrub price. :D

Yeah. Most of his value comes from being awesome vs lefties, so he won't have too many games where he'll get injured, or if he is injured, it won't affect too many games. In a DH league, you should definitely look at him, especially if you're weak vs. lefties. He can give your lineup vs them a huge boost.

I wouldn't put him in my starting outfield, but he is a risky option if you're looking to upgrade elsewhere.
