Stephenson or Selkirk?

Stephenson or Selkirk?

Postby PillPop » Mon Nov 21, 2005 1:26 pm

I'm an ATGII first-timer and my team, as you can imagine, is floundering.

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and swapping out Hank Greenberg for either Riggs Stephenson and George Selkirk. Do I keep Hank or trade him in? And, if so, for whom?

Sure, Barney McCoskey should go out. But who's in? Curt Flood?

Also, would you advise trading in Joe Gordon for Bobby Avila? I'm feeling Bobby at the moment, despite the "3" fielding. Worth it? Or is Tony Lazzeri a better fit?

I'm playing in Fenway '46, but a lot of the league plays at Forbes '09-ish HR deserts.

Any pitching advice would help too. Thanks!

The word on Gordon is that he is only good in hitters parks. I used him in a neutral park (Sportsman's '46) and he hit .220 with so-so power. IMO, Avila's offense far outweighs his DEF and should hit anywhere.

McCosky is usually pretty good in pitcher's parks. I'll look at your link tonight wjen I get out of work.

Good luck and welcome to AGII!

the Park matters!

Welcome to atg2!! I think you will really enjoy it...

I see you have picked a neutral park, not a bad idea for your first team. However, even in a neutral park, you cannot pick average players. There is alot of talent in atg2....

First your pitching staff.

Dean is great anywhere...the rest of the staff is questionable at best. Also, when going with a 4 man rotation, do not spend more than .5 on the other starters. they will never pitch, and you can use the $$ elsewhere. I personally never go as deep in the pen as you have, 4 maximum, usually 2 good rp's (hernandez is one of the best), and then a couple of spot relievers.

Your hitting

O'Neil is good anywhere. Hodges, although not used often, is a good player. seems to underperform alot, but I have had some success with him. Gordon is suited only to hitters parks, where you can take advantage of all those bphr's. Wagner at SS is great anywhere, but tends to get hurt often, so you need a good back up there. Gardner at 3b is more of a small ball type player. Greenburg is an ANIMAL, but due to his HORRIBLE fielding, he is seldom used, unless it is a DH league. IMO, McCoskey should never be used in CF...in atg2, there are just too many guys who run well to survive with a + anything arm in CF...make sure you ALWAYS have a strong arm in CF (-1 the bare minimum).

That is a very general assesment. I think the best thing to do is, on your next team, post it here prior to your league starting, and you will get a TON of advice...most of it good!

Good luck, and again....welcome!! :)

Selkirk is good, but he has a way of underperforming for me. I'd go with Stephenson.
