NEW TO SOM GOT SOME QUESTIONS

I downloaded the excel spreadsheets of the players. Is there a legend anywhere for some of the catergories in these spreadsheets (i.e "Field" or "BAT-B" for pitchers)

"Field" is the defensive fielding rating for the pitcher. It works just like the hitters. Every pitcher is rated from 1 to 5 for range with 1 being the best fielder. The second number is the error rating. If that pitcher is on your team and regularly pitching he should be expected to commit close to that many errors in a season.

"BAT-B" refers to what pitcher's hitting card that pitcher would use if in a non-DH league. The first number is from 1 to 8 with 8 being the best hitter. Next is either a W or N for power just like the regular hitters. The next letter is either an R or L which indicates if the pitcher bats LH or RH. The letter after the dash refers to the pitcher's bunting rating. A is best.

If there are other abreviations you don't understand just post em and someone will fill you in I'm sure!

[quote:e5503d8f5a]If that pitcher is on your team and regularly pitching he should be expected to commit close to that many errors in a season. [/quote:e5503d8f5a]This is true of position players, but I don't think Tomo Ohka will actually commit 51 errors in a season ;) It's errors per 1458 (= 162 * 9) innings, so to figure out how many errors you'd expect a pitcher to make, you'd divide the e-rating by 1458 and then multiply by the number of innings you expect him to pitch for you. (No real-life pitcher had more than five last season.)

Hey first off thanks for the friendly advice. I know newcomers with questions that must seem old hat for vet's aren't always welcomed, so I do appreciate it.

Here are a few others I wasn't sure about

Pitchers
HLD
BK
WP
STL
SPD

Batters
Run(not total runs but the catergory that lists numbers that seem to be between 1 and 20)

B(where the ratings are of letter value)
H(where the raing are of letter value)

any help would be great!
Thanks

Jayne

You will find that we vets are quick with the assist....like this one...all of your questions can be answered from the Help link from your home page. It gives the complete guide on "how to read a pitcher/hitter card" . While we don't really mind answering as it makes us feel wise and powerful it will be easier for you to reference this source.
