How's my Comerica Park team?

Yes, by cheap backups, I mean cheap as in < $1.00 that preferably are capable of filling in somewhere else also.

Thanks for your help you guys. Showing me where I'm wasting money and all. I dropped Bonds, putting Reed Johnson at RF, dropped Giles, grabbed Matsui to DH against RH and kept Sheff to DH against LH. Also dropped Mesa and Jones from the bullpen, and picked up Nathan to close and Riske to mopup in blowouts.

Ok I should probably quit screwing around with this team now. I didn't like my outfield so I dropped Matsui and got Giles again. I should stop now.

I like it better but I'd make one more change. You currently have 700,000 and you can still drop one of your hitters. I would drop either Perez or Santiago since they play the exact same role (backup infielder). They're pretty much identical but you MUST drop one of them to free up that 500,000. that would leave you with 1.2 mil. You can then replace Lew Ford with a LF who can hit RHP. Can you send us a list of LF available whose salary is 1.7 million or less?

Oops just noticed you made more moves and freed up a lot more money.

Yeah I see I should get rid of Perez or Santiago but I can't figure out which one to keep. lol

I was thinking of Sheff DHing and Gathright being his backup. It's not common to have a .50 mil guy at DH though is it?

I think I'll use Johnson at LF again and just keep Ford as a backup.

edit to say I should probably keep Santiago over Perez.

The more I look at your team the more I think that you could stand to upgrade your starting pitching as well. I don't like Verlander as a # 2. Your lineup is ok but i still think you have holes...i.e. who is going to play in RF against lefties and Who is your DH against righties? Also, you have invested a lot of money on defense but your park is more of a pitcher's park so I think you can downgrade a little bit on defense and improve your overall hitting. I currently have a Comerica team that is doing well and I built it around high OBP with a couple of sluggers (Ortiz and Manny). My defense is solid (2s at SS, 2B and CF) but not outstanding. Defense at 3b is not that important in stratomatic so i think crede may be a little overpriced. What is your projected lineup against lefties and righties?

Maybe you're right about 3B and defence. I don't know, I like Verlander and there doesn't seem to be much better pitching out there.

I have to figure out who will play RF against lefties but I figured Sheff's card is good enough against righties to DH against them as well.

There are a few pitcher's parks in my league so I can downgrade the D a bit but then there are at least three US Cell's I gotta worry about. Thank God there are no Coors! I haven't come up with my final lineups yet but am going to lead off with Johnson and I thought I'd put Mauer third.

This would be my projected lineup against righties (assuming you kept the team as is):

1. RF--Giles
2. LF--Johnson
3. C--Mauer
4. 1b--Howard
5. CF--Matthews
6. 3b--Crede
7. SS--Vizquel
8. DH--Sheffield
9. 2b--Polanco

Against lefties:

1. SS--Vizquel
2. LF--Johnson
3. C--Mauer
4. 1b--Howard
5. CF--Matthews
6. DH--Sheffield
7. 3b--Crede
8. RF--Giles
9. 2b--Polanco

You still have 2.7 million so can use that to get a RF who can hit lefties (what happened to cruz?). Also, who are the other 3b in left? I really don't like Crede--especially in your park. Perhaps even downgrade there (or platoon) and use that money elsewhere.
