way ta go JD! Congrats on yet another championship!

You see ty, JD is the real heavyduty long life alkaline battery of the new kids. The only heavy weight I qualify for is due to the larger than usual ammounts of beer and oversized couch where I do my SOM playing.

Well, while JD was winning game 7 I got blown out and swept in the first two games of the semis...oh well, I've got Zambrano and Lilly going up tonight @ yankee stadium, I'm down and almost out but with a speck of hope still flickering.

-------

Have you seen the way those Ashby balls have been pulverizing the baseball? The Jeffster wasn't joshing around with the steroid talk...I guess they're the Ashby Disco Balls on Stereo (such a bad joke but I couldn't resist)

Tonight marks the debut of J "the starter" duchscherer...I've got a horrendous record when a reliever has to start for me

Cummings might try to say that I am the "Heavyweight Champion of the Rookie World," but we're in another league together and the guy has swept two straight series from me. With a name like "The Poets," you would think the team would be more interested in tea or java and a well turned word, but they can really play some ball!

Stoney18 " I resemble that remark"....

Tyber, why don't you wait til after this series against my "juiced" up
Disco Balls before you go fixing the wheels on your team bus !! Hell we'll
even help you change the tire after the games tonight.

JD congrats. I've only one once, and I am convinced it was a fluke, it was back in maybe my 2nd or 3rd season of 2001. Wild-card and
just got lucky. I've looked back at the 16 seasons I've played in the past
5 years and I finished 3 or 4 all but twice !!! I'm usually at least 20 plus games out of 1st place. I've finished 2nd in a division twice, I think. I've
lost over 100 games in a season twice. Looking at it is very depressing.

That brings me to what I've learned so far in this league...I cannot believe not one single team in this league has made a single move on the free-agents !! I always hear how you have to practice patience, and now I see why. In the past after 15 - 20 games into a season I'd start making moves if my team was struggling, like this season here. But all you guys have kept telling me to "Try different things", like not messing around so much with all the "aggressive" manager settings, different batting orders,
and other little bits of useful information. Now I see the results starting to take effect. My team is slowly but surely starting to hit a bit. Yeah it may be the "steroids", but still... Seems like you really do have to practice ALOT of patience in this game, and give your team time to "gel" so to speak. I use way to many "quotations", don't I !! :?

Anyways guys, thanks for all the advice, and examples you've taught me so far in this league. After this season is over I'm looking forward to trying out some of the useful stuff I've observed here in building more Strat teams !!

Have a Good Day !!!

Jeff

aaaah JD is refering to my Seattle Poets, an experiment in Hit and Run strategy...they're starting to make some noise, finally over .500 after a horrible start thanks to a 10 game win streak.

How did we turn around? well. in order to get more revenue we renamed ourselves the New York Poets of Seattle, with the increased revenue we made some roster changes and through the initial losses we got a wee bit sense of the hit and run...we also started carrying coffee cups with us so as to entertain and distract the defense while on base and help create the gaps for the hits to make it through fenway's infield. Every now and then Ichiro starts dropping haikus to hypnotize the pitcher and catcher while Pierre steals bases and prior to every at bat Adrian Beltre recites some heartfelt Emily Dickinson...anything to get a "W".

What JD forgot to mention in his modesty is that he has the best record in the league and that he's been crushing everyone in that heavy Shea League.

BTW the other day I played my first series at CHA CHA municipal Stadium...can't remember what happened but it was a blast. The Ushers wear hawaian outfits and the drinks are bottomless in the visitors clubhouse, my hoodies were so drunk that I have no idea who was playing RF, can't remember if it was Mientiewicz or Cash...Walker got a bit tipsy with spiked Shirley Temples...can't remember much after that...oooh my headache.

Hey guys, I was thinking about trying out the 80's version of Strat for a little while. I have 4 credits left with the 2005 set, with five or six teams still going (four in first place), so I think I'm set as far as paying my own money to play 2005. No more buying those teams for me.

Now... have any of you played the 80's game? And, above all else, would you recommend it? If you guys like it, I might buy the 5 teams for $100 and just go with that for a little while. Let me know.

Definitely good points...

That's pretty much what I do to attempt to turn a negative into a positive as well JD. It gives me anopportunity to try out some players I otherwise wouldn't have in the thick of a playoff race.

Congrats on your 4th title this year. That is quite an accomplishment. If you want another real taste of Vets/Rooks, I will be inviting a number of the 05' winningest rookies to compete in a League I have created the past couple of years called LOTO - aka "League Of Their Own."

I didn't have the time or funds to blow on a lot of teams, Theme Leagues or LIVE DRAFTS, so in order to guage if I was any good at this, I was looking for a way to play the top players of the HOC in a non LIVE DRAFT/NON THEME - simple AUTO FORMAT with a few simple twists.

A lot of players have given me great feedback on some ideas I had the past 2 years and so the LOTO Invitational Tournament came into being.

The invitational part had mostly to do with players I had familiarized myself with through play in the past and recommendations from other players - Which kind of creates a family of friends who enjoy each other's competitive spirit.

ET and Penn can probably vouch for the great level of veteran competition you get to face.

So I will be looking forward to adding some new names to the LOTO Group after our 3rd and Final LOTO of 05' is completed. Anyone interested in learning more about the group can do so by checking the LOTO Threads in Individual League Chat.

BTW, did anyone catch the 1st big trade of our season here?

Saw the trade, and I have to say that if Glaus remains healthy (IF) it should be a very one sided trade to the team that got him. Glaus and Horacio Ramirez are both solid contributors, in my (relatively little) experience. However... if he doesn't, the team that landed Mora will be laughing all the way to the bank.

That's just my take on things... but I have made Tyber shed a tear or two, so maybe I'm just talking outta my rump.
