Coming into the series Morneau was injured for 2 games.

1. I assigned my CF, Edmonds, as the backup 1b.
2. I assigned my LF, E. Chavez, as the backup CF.
3. I assigned reserve, O. Palmeiro, as the backup LF.

Results:

Edmonds CF
E. Chavez LF
J. Molina 1B

What happened is allowed under the documented behavior of the Lineup Depth Chart.

"At present, although the system is able to perform multiple, separate shifts in the same lineup, it can only handle one level of a given shift."

... meaning that it had to go to the bench to find a replacement for Morneau at 1B because his sub, Edmonds, was already in the lineup at CF, and Edmonds' sub at CF, Chavez was already in the lineup at LF.
