Greatest Waiver Pool of ALL TIME -HELP

Well, I finally get the first waiver pick after 20 plus teams and have my pick of the litter- Brett, Schimdt,Yount, Sandberg- All available in waivers- I have never seen anything like it. My question to the wise vets is who??

Ballpark is Astrodome and two other pitcher parks in division and one neutral - I have Randolph and Ripken so it looks like it is between Brett and Schimdt- any thoughts from the vets.....

Hard to pass on Yount at that spot. He would be a better fit than Ripken in the Astrodome. If its between Brett and Schmidt, I think Brett is the best choice for your park and division.

I've got the 11th pick in the waivers. What happened? Did everyone just assume everyone else was taking these guys? I went for W. Clark #1, figuring if I m missed him, I might get J Clark. Ended up getting almost all my guys, but missing on some key ones. Anyway, quite a pool, isn't it?

or you could try to trade Ripkin pre-waivers to fill a need and go for Yount.

This is a pretty good idea! Ripken is definitely trade-worthy given the shortage of quality SS. Alternately, you could play Yount in CF--or pick Yount and trade Ripken later.

If it was between Brett and Schmidt I would agree with Panzer ace and go with Brett. Both Brett and Yount seem like perfect fits for the park.

You could shop the pick to see what you can get for the #1 pick. What it would mean is that as soon as the waivers were over, you would have to make the trade.

I actually did this once. The best guy out there was Mattingly, but I already had Clark. I needed a ss and traded the pick for Ripken. I know Mattingly was a better player, but I already had someone to play that position, and I was in need of an ss.

hard to pass up the chance for sandberg. A 1 at 2B is huge, plus he could hit 25 HRs 15 3Bs and steal 40+ bases...but Brett is much more consistent. Brett is probably the best hitter of the late 70s thru mid 80s (no offense to Yount who is #2 but was a bit better defensively)

I really wish more people would do that. It would totally strategize the waiver round. I'm always up for a deal like that given that same situation. One time I ended up with both T. Fernandez and C. Ripken in preseason. I couldn't trade either one to anybody. I tried offering and the response was that T. Fernandez didn't have enough OBP. I didn't receive any type of offer either.

Then after the season started, I found out that T. Fernandez wasn't in his worst season and announced that he was available. Still no luck. Turns out Ripken was on a good year. No offers for either of them. I would've given Fernandez away for a lefty killing DH at about the same salary.

I ended up waiving T. Fernandez to clear salary for pitching in the end. He was promptly picked up by someone else too. (By the same person that told me his OBP wasn't good enough.) LOL

Anyhow, Ripken and crew took me to the finals that start tonight so I can't complain too much.

Chief, let's get in a league together outside of the same division sometime and maybe we can work some deals. I can't tell you when the last time someone wanted to be proactive in the trade department such as yourself.

bjs, I just made a trade last week to get the #1 overall pick. I swapped my pick (#6) and a player for the #1 (Rocket). Clemens was clearly the best player available, but the team with the #1 was going with a low-cost SP staff, so it made sense for them to make the deal.

thanks for the info- I did go with Brett and picked up Mcguire with my second pick- nice inf- Brett, Randolph,Ripken, Mac- unfortuantely there is a big hole in left- Steve Kemp anyone???- I would have shopped the pick- but as said- alot people don't like to make trades- It's kinda hard to argue with the PANZER ACE- I mean the guy is like Phil Jackson- with all of those titles
