Mel Ott - does he suck for anyone else?

ott is frustrating, and most especially because of the high price tag. the power/defense/obp seems irrestiable, and I too consider him only a cf, which is why he gets used so often, that being the thinest position for a quality every day player. (reason doby frustrates even more owners than ott) tons of gba too. if you can't get mays, mantle, snider, speaker, he may be the next best thing, and he WILL get on base, but more often than not, a dissapointment, and a complimentary guy rather than leader, and that's too much to pay for that...imo

I like Ott a lott.

His composite averages for me over 8 seasons are .298/.417/.525.

He hit .264 for me once, but his OPS was still .875.

Ted Williams used to get bashed regularly in ATG I. Now that his price tag has soared, he rarely gets used. He was a similar player with the high number of walks. Same with Joe Morgan, although Joe does provide speed and defense.

Ott in a park with high ballpark homers will not disappoint. That gives him more or less assured home runs on 5,6,10 rolls vs.R and on 4,5,10 rolls vs.L. In any neutral or pitchers park, you are more or less assured to be disappointed in his offensive production save the walks.

I wouldn't say he's a great value, but in the right park he sure can be.

I've only seen Ott do well in extreme hitter's parks. He's a recipe for disaster in a pitcher's park, hovering around the Mendoza line.

Ott has always done well for me in Hitter parks, never used him in a pitchers park
