Can't grasp 2007

Postby The Turtle » Sat May 19, 2007 1:21 pm

I have had quite a bit of success in previous years, but i am failing to win in 2007, my largest problem seems to be one run games where my 4 teams are a combined 48-76. My first team went 76-86 despite a decent 704-701 runs scored/against combo...I have a current team that is 11-25 in one run games that is struggling ...

Here are my team please post any thing you notice that could be causing my demise.

Team 2

this team I made a huge deadline deal, trading away Big Papi, Napoli, German, Zambrano and Maddux ...Papi was hitting .220 or so with about 35 HRs, Zambrano had an era of around 5.5 German OBP was about .360. This team has outscored it opponents 812-796
Team 3

I just traded N.Johnson, rolen and Abreu for Morneau, Cabrera and Church
Team 4

team is dead last in scoring....

I've given up on the pitching this year and have used defense, homerun hitters, and ballparks favoring home runs over singles. For example, I cannot tell much difference in overall performance between Livan Hernandez or Johan Santana, Bob Wickman or Joe Nathan, Roy Oswalt or Josh Beckett. So, I think you have to pretend you're playing in Coors field from 2002 or 2003 and try to pound your opponents into submission. At least then your team has a fighting chance. Out of 5 active teams, my 2 first place teams have total pitching staff salaries of 22 million and 23 million but I have ones for defense at third, ss, cf,and 2's at second, and no 4's anywhere. Since I gave up on expensive pitchers and started to covet defense and homeruns my overall record has gone from 105-120 to 257-238. Granted, not much of a sample size but I believe to be significant. Just my 2 pennies worth

Can't figure it out. To me pitching seems the same. Platoons worked really well in 06- not working in 07. Probably due to the less extreme parks.

Even though it is different than last year it is still great! Makes you really think of who you find that will help you. I think mid year people will find there stride, but then again I am drinking a little tonight, wwwwweeeeeee!

I couldn't find how many teams you played, but I know I would have a tough time playing $100 without playing a lot of $80 to sort of get the lay of the land. I really couldn't even begin to analyze your teams.

I've been playing a lot of $100 leagues since the option became available in 2005 (04) or so, just like it better, some people complain that the FA pool is thin, but I like it that way

I agree. I don't like playing 80K leagues because too many limitations. Won my first championship at 200K. My first 2007 is doing good so far. Took me a while to assemble staff. Actually Lackey and Johnson were cast offs who have done great for me. I look for low HR pitchers. Also made sure I had good OBP and solid defense. Relievers have been a disaster. Have replaced all 3 mils I had. Only drafted one I have left is Saito.
