Phillips, Burke, or Kinsler at 2b

Phillips is just not getting it done for me. Any thoughts on Kinsler or Burke at 2b. I have Amezaga as a backup.

My ballpark is Great American Ballpark.

Thanks.

i understand your frustration. phillips hasn't helped you a lot on the hitting side. However, while burke or kinsler may help you a bit offensively (nothing drastic) your going to sacrifice a lot on D. if you want to make the move i'd go kinsler but i'd stay with phillips a bit longer.

I would also stick with Phillips. While he is not hitting, his glove still works. Any slight increase in offense would be partially offset by the decline in defense. Ultimately, IMO the success or failure of your team depends very little on whether or not Phillips hits. He is a good fielding eigth or ninth batter who pops out an occasional HR. I used him and didn't like him either, but I don't see what you propose as a significant upgrade.

I have had horrible luck with Phillips on multiple teams, so I switched to Jeff Keppinger. Sure, lost defense and a lot of luck played in, but a >480 slugging, .330 OBP and 15 homeruns makes up a lot compared to .280 slg, .300 obp and .170 BA.

I like Keppinger too, especially in a hitting park for .86. I almost used him in Coors and only swithed to the White Sox 2B because of Eckstein at SS also being a "3". I almost said something about seeing if he was available. I would still be hesitant to do it and maybe give it a little more time. If his team stunk, I might do it, but that is not the case. I just noticed your bullpen, with pretty good guys, is 3-6 and has blown 40% of save opportunities. If the bullpen was 6-3 instead of 3-6, making your record 32-22, would you still want to drop Phillips? Whether or not Phillips is there or not has little effect on the pen, and if they were doing just a little better you would be playing almost .600 ball. I think you can almost afford Keppinger by cutting Lopez & Almazega for a .50 right now, but I would still play Phillips until the halfway point. I would not put a 3e25 at 2b when I already had a winning team.

all 2b's suck so you might as well stay with one that is good defensively...

Here's another Keppinger fan.

Gotta be in a hitting park though...

He's backing up Chipper @ US Cell for me, providing some pop in his absence.

I think you need to stick with Phillips. Gotta agree with the guys above.

1. What are your lineups?
2. You need to funnel the relief innings to Zumaya then Feliciano and the Wickman. Looper is getting too many innings, while Feliciano, who is more $, sits. So, what are your managerial/bullpen settings?

Lineups and Bullpen

Postby BeltranFebles » Fri May 25, 2007 3:42 pm

Thanks for the advice guys.

My current lineups are:

v. RHP

Reyes ss
Damon cf
Cabrera 3b
Howard 1b
Holliday lf
Hawpe dh
Markakis rf
Olivo c
Phillips 2b

v. LHP

Same lineup except Markakis moves up one spot and Felipe Lopez goes in for Hawpe.

As for my relief settings:

Normal usage
Zumaya sets up v. both L and R (lefties are rocking him)
Wickman closes v. both
Feliciano is set to not use before the 6th. But you're absolutely right he's not being used enough.

I welcome all suggestions to improve my team.

Thanks.

No wonder he isn't. With Z being the setup, he will be used in the 6th inning+ already, then with Feliciano avoid before 6th, what is there for him?

I'd set Z avoid before 6th (or 7th) and leave Felciano unchecked and he will see more action.
