Vic Power, RIP

Vic Power, RIP

Postby MATTSCHMIDT » Tue Nov 29, 2005 5:28 pm

Vic Power died today of cancer at the age of 78. Although he's not in ATG2, he does make for a nice backup in Fantasim.

Vic had one of my favorite baseball quotes ever. I don't have it handy so I'll paraphrase. Power was with the Twins when Tony Oliva came up. Remarking on Oliva's choice of date for the evening, Power advised him, "Tony, you're in the big leagues now. We don't go out with girls who look like Willie Mays."

When I was a little kid, Vic Power was one of my favorites to watch on TV. He was quite a hotdog. He did the snap catch at first base and would toss the bat from one hand to the other as he took his practice swings. He lashed line drives and was very slick with the glove. He was cool-- before cool was cool.

Pill, I agree with you. Vic was good, he knew he was good, and had all the confidence in the world. Yep, quite a "Showman." Abe could have and maybe tried, to sign him to play for the Globetrotters. Don`t think Vic ever wore an ear ring but if Vic was playing now, he would have the ear rings, gold chains, and probably be making 6-8-10 million a year. I am glad that Vic played when he did. Like you said, Pill. RIP Vic Power. Vic came at the right time.
