I'm fairly happy with my relief pitchers, but I don't have anyone with good closer ratings. Is that a problem in a save situation? Has anyone ever not designated setupmen and closers and just let Hal bring the guys in? Should I do that? Any advice might help.

I was also debating dropping Hooten for either Lefty Grove or Warren Spahn. Any ideas?

Yes. I have used a closer by committee approach before and just let HAL choose when to bring them in. It works pretty well most of the time. Make sure you set things up on the back of the individual player cards though. You don't want anyone overly biased on one side facing a batter from his weak side (8R facing a LH batter, etc.).

That link doesn't work by the way. Do this:

1. go to your league's statistics page
2. hover your mouse over your team
3. right click the mouse button once
4. from the menue choose "copy shortcut" and left click
5. in your post right click the mouse where you want the link to go
6. choose "paste" and left click to paste it

That link worked. A valid link has your league's ID on the end. If it doesn't, then the link will take people back to there own teams.

I would probably use the manager settings to tell HAL who to use and when. If you don't Garman will get the majority of the close opportunities because he has the highest rating (/4@). He's not your best reliever.

Also, I would drop Billingham for a .50 SP to hide in your rotation so HAL doesn't use him (designate him as a starter in your rotation and use the per-game starters for your big 4). Use the extra .30 to upgrade Holtzman. He gives up too many hits and will get pounded in a 100m league. Look for a lower WHIP.

I would probably keep Hooton. He should do well in Busch '87.

Your outfield defense is a concern. Center is fine with Dom, but you'll need a gun in right. See if Carl Furillo is available.

Setting Garman as closer v Righties, quick hook,avoid before 9th, 1-2 max innings, will limit his innings and maybe maximize his effiency.

Not much left to choose from. Snodgrass, Dwight Evans or Al Kaline ( but I worry about the injury ).

Pick up Barfield. He's usually available on the wire.

Yeah, Kaline is a 15 game injury risk. That will give you fits.
