Proxied my picks

The Commish has my proxy picks. Good thing a time limit is set for each beginning tomorrow morning-I thought we'd be through the first round by now.

Trades and the FA Draft Questions

Postby mhpine » Sun Dec 04, 2005 8:52 pm

Sorry for the following rules questions, but I might as well get them out before much of the FA draft has started

1) Only 5 non-franchise players can be put on the auto-draft card. Can a team still make a selection in the FA draft if it has already acquired 5 non-franchise players through trades or earlier rounds?

2) Are FA's selected in the FA Draft required to be placed on that team's auto-draft list?

3) If not, can players selected in the FA Draft but not included on anyone's autodraft list be picked up prior to the regular season by someone else or does the drafting team hold that player's "rights" just like they do a franchise FA?

Postby vince0501 » Sun Dec 04, 2005 8:56 pm

The Los Angeles A's send Bobby Crosby & Eric Chavez to the Chicago Giants for Carlos Lee and the Giants pick in round 1 of the draft.

Still waiting on Novie... :(

i will try and answer the questions as I understand the rules.

You may pick in the draft but only 5 non franchise guys may be on your draft card. If you aquire someone and do not put them on your roster, the only team able to pick them back up is the original franchise team.

So you may not put an undrafted teams player on your roster unless you select them in the supplemental draft.

Mo can correct me, if I misunderstood.

Vince, you are correct on both counts.

You may have up to five non-franchise players, acquired either in a trade or in the supplemental draft, on your auto-draft list ... since that will be required to meet your 20 franchise player minimum. If you trade for a player with another team, then drop him in the AD, he is lost to you forever unless his franchise team picks him up and trades him back to you.

If a team drafts a FA, then doesn't list him for the AD, then that player is ineligible. That's kind of an underhanded tactic, but I am loath to impose yet another rule unless the league's members feel that a rule is necessary requiring any drafted FA be included in a team's auto-draft list. For now, I trust that we are all honorable players and will not engage in that sort of thing.

I hope your questions have been answered, mhpine. Thanks for asking.

To exceed the 5 limit-A thought

Postby genevajack » Sun Dec 04, 2005 9:15 pm

So... to exceed the five limit you'll need to have the team that traded a non-franchise player to you agree at the time of the original trade to retrade the player back to you after the autodraft.
