Hey ATG2'ers, please join this discussion on the SOM message board, as it pertains to ATG2 too:

I think the fact that Johnny Podres (2WL) holds the batting avg record for pitchers tells you everything you need to know about this. Even with pitchers getting only about 80 AB per season, this would be the equivalent of Leo Durocher winning a batting title.

I've felt for a long time that pitcher's hitting cards were not being used. If they were somebody at some point would have had a season where Drysdale or Ruffing hit .500.

My own theory is that the pitchers 1-batting card is the only one loaded in the system and that 2 thru 8 are not loaded.

I don't think so...

This ATG2 team has all the best pitcher's hitting cards in a big hitters ballpark - I didn't see any difference from any other team...

I remember this subject being beat to death on a thread on the old boards. Only conclusion I could draw from that discussion was that the supposed hitting card listed for a pitcher has no impact on hitting performance. I now ignore these completely. Wonder if this discussion should be taken to the questions, suggestions for TSN forum where it would hopefully get read and acted upon.

Last year, I looked at the batting average for all of the pitchers in an $80 mil league. Over ~5000 at bats, there was no significant difference between the batting average of pitchers with different hitting ratings. In fact, I think the highest BAV (by a narrow margin) was for pitchers with a "2" hitting card. Unfortunately, all the data was listed in the old forum, so I can't find it now. I've been playing DH ever since.

I haven't done any in depth statistical anaylsis, but I agree--based on the times when I have tried to follow it, I suspect that the cards aren't being used--for the reasons stated above, I have had pitchers supposedly with the worst cards routinely out hit pitchers which are supposed to have half decent ones. I don't own the actual cards, so I don't know the breadth of the difference (if someone has them, I wouldn't mind seeing them if you can).

On the other hand, I never select pitchers based on the batting card anyway.

How do I look up the batting statistics of the pitchers? I must be missing something, as I haven't found a way to do it.

I tend to agree with everyone on this point - probably, the 1 hitting card is the only one loaded - however, pithers who hit HR's have (to the best of my knowlege) "N" power.
