Back to you Sean. I need more than a pitcher swap. Clancy does not excite me enough to not add hitting to the deal.

Got it BC. I am really hoping to swap out Reuss for a hitter. 2 RP won't help me this season and Reuss is still servicable this year based on his splits.

Do my players have the plague? Leprosy? I couldn't give Horner away, until I actually gave him away. When did Willie Hernandez start to have no value to anyone? I'm not going to drop him. His numbers this year are a reflection of how my division opponents hit lefties.

Horner hits 5 HRs in first series for BFDs

Postby BC Manager » Sun Dec 04, 2005 5:13 am

So, YF, do you see what I mean about Horner being a good fit for your team/division?

No more of my players for you!

Maybe Horner is only a good fit vs the Mango Men's pitching :P . I'll take the runs anyway I can get them. He has to hit more then DeCinces did.

In 46 Games/164 AB's for me, Horner produced: 6 HRs, 17 RBI

In 6 Games/22 AB's for YF, Horner has produced: 6 HRs, 17 RBI

1984 MID SEASON AWARDS AND ALL-STARS

Postby albert2b » Wed Dec 14, 2005 10:15 pm

My apologies for being a few days late on this, as my internet has been down at work. I actually got started on this last weekend, so the MVP, CY Young and ROY numbers are from a few days ago. Other than that, enjoy!

[b:b26d394304]MVP[/b:b26d394304]

Dwight Evans, Hakers – Has been an absolute monster, leading the league in HR(35) and RBI(74), despite playing for the last place Hakers. But no Arod/Hawk Dawson comparisons please, as the Hakers are just 7 games out of 1st and would be much more than that if it wasn’t for Evans. Oliver (who is the only one with a higher OPS than Dewey) and Cooper got my runner up votes.

[b:b26d394304]CY YOUNG[/b:b26d394304]

Mike Flanagan, Ten – Having a dream 14-2 season, this crafty lefty has dominated the competition thus far in 1984. Opponents are hitting .233 against him and he’s particularly stingy vs lefties (.149). Playing on a 1st place ballclub, he has a an outside chance at 30 wins. Rhoden, Reuschel, and Hough got consideration, but weren’t really close.

[b:b26d394304]ROOKIE OF THE YEAR[/b:b26d394304]

Bill Doran, Mango Men – He’s outplaying #1 overall pick and East Division counterpart, Sandberg. Has done it all for the Mangos, hitting for average (.288) and power (8 HR 42 RBI), running the bases (19 SBs) and most importantly, setting the tables (.397 OBP) and playing great D (6 errors). Sandberg, Langston and Phelps were honorable mention in this largely underachieving rookie class.

[b:b26d394304]FIRST TEAM ALL-STARS[/b:b26d394304]
C – Butch Wynegar, CAN (Fantastic percentages .339/.493/.445 combined with solid D; Not much more you can ask of you catcher; A switch hitter too!)
1B – Al Oliver, TEN (This MVP candidate is currently leading the league in batting-.385- and carrying the TEN to possibly another Central Division title)
2B – Bobby Grich, FAT (26 HR and 67 RBI at 2B is unheard of for the Fatboys who previously employed Remy there; Same glove, MUCH better bat)
3B – Mike Schmidt, BEU (Following up his monster 1983 campaign with another impressive season; .280, 27, 77)
SS – Cal Ripken Jr., BEU (Far and away the best SS in the league this season; Gives the Beulahs a fearsome left side of the infield)
OF – Dwight Evans, HAK (See above)
OF – Dave Parker, BFD (This perennial All-Star is the only player in the top 10 of all the three Triple Crown categories)
OF – Dale Murphy, HAK (Two first team outfielders? How are the Hakers in last place???)
DH – Pedro Guerrero, BRE (This guy is very familiar with the first team; .308, 24, 71)
SP – Mike Flanagan, TEN (See above)
SP – Rick Reuschel, BRE (The Breakers looks like they finally got that big year out of Big Daddy; 14-6, 3.13 ERA, 1.04 WHIP)
SP – Rick Rhoden, HOM (Ace numbers from a guy who was slated as the #3 SP at the beginning of the year; 12-8, 3.29, 1.14)
SP – Charlie Hough, BRE (Combined 28 wins between he and Reuschel thus far; Not sure IMB wouldn’t have expected more out of them…for the entire season!)
SP – Oil Can Boyd, MAN (Here’s a surprise name out of the group; Single handedly keeping the Mango Men afloat in the East)
RP – Doug Corbett, HOM (Been very close to untouchable this year; .95 WHIP to match his 1.12 ERA and league leading 25 saves)
RP – Jay Howell, CAN (Somehow, this guy keeps getting his one really good card; This year, penngray’s Canucks are the beneficiaries)
RP – Bob Kipper, MUR (Has replaced Howe as the dominant LH arm in the Murph’s pen; 46/82 H/IP ratio
RP – Jesse Orosco, TEN (On pace for 200 IP and close to 30 saves)
RP – Gary Lavelle, BEU (Having a dominant year as co-closer with Quisenberry; sub 1.00 WHIP with a 2.45 ERA in 92 IP)

[b:b26d394304]SECOND TEAM ALL-STARS[/b:b26d394304]

C – Andy Ashby, MUR (Even though he’s a platoon player, he’s been the most productive of all the backstops; Carter has the D, but his numbers just didn’t stack up to Ashby’s)
1B – Cecil Cooper, HOM (Could’ve tossed a coin to see who made the first team, him or Oliver; The same could be said about the MVP award as well)
2B – Willie Randolph, BRE (Despite Doran’s fantastic rookie season, we’ll give it to the veteran as he has put up some good numbers himself, including a .425 OBP)
3B – George Brett, FAT (Boo-hoo, I didn’t get his 1980 season this year…someone get me a tissue; .334, 17, 69)
SS – Robin Yount, TEC (Making the 2nd team isn’t a great accomplishment this year as it’s a down year for SS; I’m sure Rockin’ Robin and BC expected more)
OF – Dwayne Murphy, TEN (Evening out that Valenzuela trade...to the tune of .287, 24, 63 with a .395 OBP and only 1 E in CF)
OF – Jim Rice, BFD (Has underachieved thus far this decade, but not this year. .300, 23, 81)
OF – Tony Armas, HOM (Even though he calls the Kingdome home and his average is low, 34 HR and 76 RBI are hard to ignore)
DH – Wade Boggs, MAN (A very strong 3B crop this year has relegated Boggs to DH, but hey, it’s better than being snubbed; .381 BA and .464 OBP)
SP – Rick Sutcliffe, MUR (11-8, 3.67, 1.12; Would have better numbers, but is playing for a last place ballclub and in a hitters’ park)
SP – Bud Black, HOM (This 11 game winner is also playing in a hitters’ park and has done well considering that, but playing on a 1st place ballclub may have boosted his #s)
SP – Mark Langston, TEN (The TEN’s 1st round pick has stepped in and become a terrific #2 behind surprise ace Flanagan; 10-5, 3.46, 1.40)
SP – Nolan Ryan, FAT (League strikeout leader has been the anchor of my staff after an underwhelming rookie year last year; 10-7, 3.46, 1.32, 165 Ks)
SP – Len Barker, TEC (Another guy who has pitched better than his record may indicate 8-7, 2.62, 1.12)
RP – Dan Quisenberry, BEU (Not as flashy and durable as previous years, but has gotten the job done)
RP – Tippy Martinez, EXP (Has thrived in a setup role although he could probably close if called upon to; 1.53 ERA, .91 WHIP)
RP – Al Holland, EXP (Another All-Star appearance for the big lefty; His 21 saves currently ranks 3rd in the league)
RP – Ron Davis, BEU (Hasn’t had many innings but has dominated whenever called upon; 2.35 ERA, .88 WHIP)
RP – Jeff Reardon, FAT (Has flourished in a co-closer role, but may become a full-time closer in the 2nd half as Gleaton continues to struggle; 3.13 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 13 sv)

Nice selections Albert, and the writing is excellent. The BFDs pitching would pickup I could over take the Stealing Home. Still a lot of ball to play.
