Team assessment - bad start or bad team?

Here's an update. Got a couple of decent trade offer, but they didn't quite get me where I wanted to be. One deal suggested some pitching, and I know ya'll are not happy with the pitching, but I'm going to be stubborn and stick with it, expecting them to come through with help I'm bringing on defense and hitting.

Visick, I went with chavez and quinlan. Chavez was so-so for me on one other team, but he does have the hits and defense, and the money he saved over my other options allowed me to also upgrade at catcher, and I picked up coste. Average hits went from 24 to over 27 vs RHP and from 24+ to over 29 vs LHP. OF defense improved.

I held on to german, but I am still waffling. I could still swap him for carroll. Hits are the same vs RHP and only slightly less vs LHP, although overall OBP is of course lower. But is german's extra hitting really better than the 2b-2 e5 replacing a 2b-3 e8 on defense?

Anyway, here's the new lineups, although still tinkering with them:

RHP
german, 2b
abreu, rf
howard, 1b
edmonds, cf
coste, c
quinlan, dh
teahan, 3b
chavez, lf
wilson, ss

LHP
abreu, rf
german, 2b
byrnes, lf
howard, 1b
teahan, 3b
quinlan, dh
chavez, cf
coste, c
wilson, ss

Coste is better than Edmonds, and Chavez should be above tehan and Quinlan vs R

Quinlan should move ahead of tehan vs L

actually I just realized I had my ratings set for Shea.... changing it to Chase Edmonds does come out ahead.

vs R I would go: German, Abreu, Howard, Edmonds, Coste, Tehan, chavez, Wilson, Quinlan

Quinlan still needs to move up vs L though. I would move Coste to the #7 though and bat Chavez 9th as a 2nd leadoff.

Thanks, I was scratching my head over coste ahead of edmonds and was going to ask about that. I like coste 5th for the TB although the argument could be made for teahan's clutch.

I can see chavez 9th vs LHP, but quinlan 9th vs RHP? Same thought at chavez I guess but I think I'd want him to see a few more atbats and be on base for teahans power. Jut trying to understand the logic.

And I would typically see quinlin as either 3rd or 6th vs LHP. Don't want to bump byrnes down, but quinlin could go 5th; just don't like that -9 clutch there, but it would put RH power behind howard.

Great tips, thanks!
