Trying to put together a Forbes team

My opinion...this team has big troubles. Eck is over kill. Beggs + Perranoski would be better and cheaper. I'm a firm believer of a lefty righty combo out of the pen. There are not enough arms in the outfield nor near enough 1s on Def. A LOT of extra bases will be taken and that will result in runs. Your ERA will balloon into the low 4s or high 3s. Your offense is not going to produce. You may average 2-3 runs per game but not consistantly. Most games 0, 1, or 2 runs will be normal. Get more OBP into your offense and have 2 good RBI guys.

Have to agree with Grindi. Eck is a big waste of $$ with that SP. Dump him, keep Worrell, get another non-starting SP, and a couple value RPs like Hall (one of the best for the $$) Taylor, Wyatt, giusti, staley, martinez, richert and upgrade Rice to somewone with better D, bat and speed, dump doran for White and upgrade another bat as welland you will be in MUCH better shape, IMO.

I agree with these guys. Eck WAY too much relief. With those starters any schmoe should be able to close. I'd cut him loose and spread the $ around. You might be able to upgrade Jimmy Rice with Cleon Jones in LF. I like him in Forbes and you will too. :) The OPB is much more valuable to you than a stud closer.

Got Morgan for 2b, Willie Wilson and Josh Devore on the corners. Dropped Eck, though it pained me to do so. Got Del Rice to catch against lefties just for the purantee hell of it. If Luderus can hit, I might be alright. You wouldn't believe how thin the wire is in this league. Will lead off Wilson against lefties and Devore against righties. Helluva a thing when your offense depends on Luderus and Buck Weaver.


Would you prefer Cleon to Dawson? I think I'll make the switch.

Yes, I like Cleon Jones a lot more than Hawk Dawson in a pitcher's park. The extra OBP will come in handy. :D If he's still on the wire you should grab him and play him in LF, moving Wilson to CF.

Yeah, dropping The Eck is a hard thing to do, but as stated above it's overkill in a pitcher's park. He's overpriced IMO. I had him on one of my 80s teams once and he was 0-6 with 6 blown saves (10 saves). I dropped him and picked up 3 cheaper relievers and my bullpen was lights out the rest of the season.

Still seems like you could use a RBI guy in the middle of that lineup. I think Haas will drive in more runs than Wilson and provide similar D in CF. You're right that there's not much available on the wire.

If your division opponents don't have many SB guys, I'd think about swapping Schalk for Kling or Meyers.

Dave Hall, Bahnsen, Pina and Lefferts would look good in the bullpen. (and get rid of Stanley! Pattin a much better cheapie option)

The pen is now a little thin but it won't hurt you as bad as the offense. When I put big money in my pitching, I don't have any big money on my offense. 2 or 3 guys under 3 mil, 1 or 2 guys 6-7 mil, the rest 4-5 mil at most. I go for 2 guys with def and arms in cf and rf. eg..Doby and Meusel. Ripple or Jojo in lf. I want a def catcher, Dempsey works ok. 1s at ss and 2b. Trammell and Collins would be great. 1b is an RBI guy. I like Cooper but any will do. That allows me to beef up 3b, Rolfe or Boggs. Then if there is money left I'll upgrade rp, c, lf, or bench. I don't think your offense has enough punch. Just my opinion, not Gospel. :)

Go Figure. Out of the blocks your hitting is good and your pitching is awful. Last night at Forbes you won the first game 4-3, 12 hits to my 7. The second game I won 9-8. You had 19 hits to my 15. The third game I won 7-3 and had 9 hits to your 7. If your star studded pitching would have pitched like they should have, you could have easily swept. You scored plenty of runs. My staff of Hughson, Seaver, Spahn, and Blue shoild not be out pitching yours of Alexander, Koufax, Camnitz, and Roberts.
Shows you what I know. I thought your offense would be the biggest problem. :shock:
The good news is we're only 6 games in.
