Question- Can I trade my 3rd round pick to qksilver, since I have 4 picks but can only use 3?

If DT only takes 3 players, then we will have less than 36 players drafted, right Sandy?

I am only allowed 2 drops/picks since I traded one to him, he should be able to drop 3 players & make 3 picks on his own, plus one for the one I gave him, right?

Yeah - this is where it gets complicated. As I understand the rules, DT can only drop 3 players.

If he had a roster of 39 players, he could use that extra draft pick to bring his roster back up to 40.

But since he currently has a full 40 man roster, that extra draft pick is now useless to him except as trade material.

So he can trade it to Qksilver.

If he gets a player back from Qk in the deal he would then either have to drop someone to make his roster legal, or trade/forgo one of his remaining draft picks (if the draft is still going on)

Unless I'm completely wrong in my interpretation (as has happened before).

Well qk- since we originally talked about doing a round 3 for a round 3 in case the 1 for 1 didn't work, would you be willing to do that now?

You mean a round 3 in this one vs. a round 3 in the FA draft? Not sure. I'd rather trade you a player for a pick now & you drop someone if Sandy confirms that it's kosher.

I do have some other irons in the fire so we'll have to see, but value-wise it makes sense to do some kind of deal otherwise you only get positional value from our original deal, not roster value.

I consulted with our lawyers and this is what we have come up with.

While the Charter DOES say:[quote:41f0776e3c]Before entering the Supplemental Draft, a team must drop as many players that it wishes to redraft (up to 3) prior to the start of the Supplemental Draft[/quote:41f0776e3c]

It also later says:[quote:41f0776e3c]You may of course trade for another owner's Supplemental Draft picks and thus have more rounds that way, but you will never be able to have greater than a 40 man roster.[/quote:41f0776e3c]

While I do agree with KD's assessment of the language, I ALSO thinks that it allows for D-T to keep his traded pick and have up to 3 of his own (by dropping a 4th player).

While that may seem sacriligous it is actually not. BECAUSE, AT MOST, 36 players will be picked up. The player that QK drops to cover his First Round traded pick, he replaces with his Round 2 pick, and if he wants a Round 3 pick he drops a second player. He only gets to pick up 2 players.

D-T still gets to drop his normal max of 3 players to replace 3 players (his alotted 3 rounds), but [i:41f0776e3c]gets to make an additional drop [/i:41f0776e3c]to cover the EXTRA pick that Qk will NOT be able to make.

This way he will not end up with a roster over 40 players. While I admit that may be a somewhat vague interpretation, I believe it is the most fair.

[i:41f0776e3c][b:41f0776e3c]There would still be a max of 36 players taken[/b:41f0776e3c][/i:41f0776e3c], which is the full intent of the rules.
