You Gotta See This Boxscore ... HAL is a genius!!!

Let me preface this by offering a disclaimer that I do not have a backup for Wade Boggs because he has 680+ AB's and is supposed to be bulletproof.

Now on to the goodies ......

Check this out:

1st game of the year and in the bottom of the 8th my team is trailing by one run. So, HAL in his infinite wisdom decides to PINCH RUN for Wade Boggs even though I do not have a backup who can play 3B. So, he pinch runs for Boggs with Cesar Geronimo and Geronimo ends up scoring the game tying run. Then he leaves Geronimo in to play 3B for the 9th inning. Fortunately, no errors to show for it. Then in the bottom of the 9th batting in Wade Boggs spot, Geronimo singles home Joe Dimaggio to win the game!

Wow, HAL is truly a genius, because I sure would have never thought of that ................

HAL must have been in fine form last night. My small ball team gets swept all 3 games in extra innings.... With 5 R rated pitchers to pick from, Dayley comes in in game 1 and gives up 2 walks and a hit without recording an out.... Dayley also loses games 3 ..... in between in game 2 where he also got the loss, he put up these impressive numbers...

*** TOP OF INNING 10 ***
SUBSTITUTE P - Ken Dayley
SUBSTITUTE C - Joe Garagiola
0 R.Clemente 1 Double b-2
0 2 H.Wilson 6 Strike Out b-0
1 2 S.Leslie 6 Home Run 2-H b-H
1 S.O'Neill 6 Single b-1
1 1 J.Collins 4 Single 1-2 b-1
1 12 L.Bowa 4 Walk 2-3 1-2 b-1
SUBSTITUTE PH- Cliff Heathcote
1 123 C.Heathcote 4 Walk 3-H 2-3 1-2 b-1
1 123 B.Hatcher 5 HBP 3-H 2-3 1-2 b-1
1 123 L.Whitaker 4 Walk 3-H 2-3 1-2 b-1
1 123 R.Clemente 6 Strike Out b-0
2 123 H.Wilson 6 Single 3-H 2-H 1-3 b-1
2 1 3 S.Leslie 4 Triple 3-H 1-H b-3
2 3 S.O'Neill 3 Double 3-H b-2
SUBSTITUTE P - Milt Shoffner
2 2 J.Collins 4 Double 2-H b-2
2 2 L.Bowa 6 Ground Out b-0

11 runs in 2/3 of an inning

When i seen the scores 4-1 ....14-3...and 4-3 .... I had no indication that these were 3 close extra inning games ...hahahahaa

Helps to control the dice

Postby Valen » Tue Dec 06, 2005 2:20 pm

I think sometimes HAL does something really dumb. Then panics briefly wondering "what have I done". Then takes a deep breath, remembers oh yeah I control the dice too, and wallah dumb move turns in to a brilliant move that leaves us all amazed at his genius.

I personally like his idea (my fault since I forgot to set opening night lineups) to platoon Ernie Bowman with Mr. Hornsby at second base. Perhaps I overestimate the ability of Hornsby vs. RH pitching

After 4 years of doing this I've come to the conclusion that HAL doesn't have a clue and wouldn't last half a season as a real manager with the moves it makes.

One of the reasons we need a don't pinchrun option. On the other hand would Boggs have scored on the double which tied the game for you?
