SOM Through the Years League - Chat Thread - 2008 draft time

the statisical advantage of having one or two add'l autodraft picks is almost nil.

remember, we place our set picks at teh bottom of our auto-draft card.

Really?

So 1 or 2 studs on a squad will NOT make a difference?

A 5L or 6R hitter can't change the outcome of a game or 2?

I kinda see your point woods but...

If we take 2 managers here, manager A and B.

Manager A has all 23 or 24 (whatever it is) players from 2002.
Manager B has say 3 2002 studs and that's it.

Going into the next season, manager A has to balance his budget in order to fit his 10 keepers on the squad, whereas manager B doesn't have this problem.

This would be the case, season after season limiting manager A in his choices of players. Manager B then can choose EVERY year who he wants to draft, almost without salary cap limitations.

To be clear, I didn't accuse Geekor of anything and am sorry if my post was read that way. What I should simply have said is that ambiguities--which I still believe this is--should not be read in favor of the person who wrote it. Basic contract law.

But on a more basic level, its clear that more than half of us were playing under a different understanding of the rules. To me basic concepts of fairness dictate that we simply go back and drop those picks and start from there. Surely the rules didn't contemplate someone drafting an entire team of players who played one year only in the '03-07 games to allow him to AD his whole team each year. To me, at least, the solution is simple.

In the early part of the chat thread, someone said something to the effect of how hard it was going to be to find 10 quality picks. At that point, it could easily have been clarified that we weren't limited to 02 players. But those who read the rule that way said nothing. Just doesn't feel right.

Geekor, I apologize if my previous post offended you.

[quote:05983c0771="fowldawg"]That being said, I am afraid I am going to bow out of the league. It looks like we are at a temporary impasse, and since I am leaving on vacation Wednesday morning, I would like to afford you all the opportunity to find a replacement so that you can continue on in good time once a resolution has come.

Good luck![/quote:05983c0771]

Why sign up for a five season league and then quit less than a week into a draft after most of us have spent $50-75 to play? Unbelieveable.

In order to save the league (I Bought my teams already for theearly years), I vote for a card in at least 4 of the 5 years (even though I had a different understanding) with no requirement as to 2002 card (meaning if draftee has a card 2003-22006, he is kosher).

I made the assumption that we all were drafting players with 2002 cards. Never thought about it any other way, and was actually trying to draft players with cards in all years, then of course, fill the rest with players in the auto draft. What ver we decide, I am not sure I would have changed my picks any how.

I am good to go with whatever we choose. I just hope it is more about the current year then the futures, I.E. Howard, Liarino, etc etc.

Btw way, neither Bret nor Aaron Boone has a card in EVERY one of the 2002-2006 seasons. I take it that means you cant have Bret Boone?????????
