What is wrong with this team?

Postby Surfer Joe » Thu Jul 26, 2007 11:18 am

I thought I put together a pretty good team and started 7-2 but now I'm getting slaughtered. Just like some insight as to what's wrong with this team if anyone can help. Thanks.

Sorry. forgot the link.

Thanks. I can't figure it out. Unless it's just one of those slumps every team has.

I hovered a few games over .500 for the first part of the season but now 18 over for now. I don't usually make changes until around game 40. I'm no expert but a couple suggestions. Use your money to get a better player than Swisher. I would also get rid of Brett Myers. Gives up way too many home runs. Hard to hit in Shea so you'll have trouble scoring runs. That Norcal team in your league looks like a winner. Use all your available money. Doesn't do you any good on the bench so to speak.

One thing i can see right off the bat is you have an RP that cost you 4.72 million dollars that has only pitched 4 innings in 30 games! I would try and do something about that. You need to get a guy that $$ into the game.

I also don't see why you have 6 SP's, 5 of which can go every 4 days. It seems like this extra $$ could have been put to better use, to improve the hitting for instance. I find in 100 milll leagues, you need at least one stud on offense...I do not see any on this team. (with the exception of Abreu)

Another thing i see is too many R1's...even in a pitchers park like shea, in a 100 mill league your bullpen is going to get alot of use, and all those R1's are going to tire quickly. I think if it were me i would drop Reyes (a very expensive R1 IMO) and get a good R2/R3 reliever (although I do not see anything on the FA wire, another pitfall of 100 mill leagues!)

I think it boils down to too much $$ spent on unneeded pitching (6 starters, 12 pitchers overall) and not enough spent on offense.

The last factor could be that it is very early! It is not unusual to go thru winning and losing streaks. Your stats are pretty good for your pitchers, and your hitting has been pretty poor up to this point. Perhaps this will improve, you just never know!

my .02

looks like an 80 mill team with spare parts, a big mistake people make in 100 mill leagues is that they think they have a LOT of money to spend on the bench but you still have to maxamize you players...why Vidro, why Zito, why Ledezma??? Why Duffy and Kotsay???? you flushed a ton of money down the toilet....Oh an Encarcion??? 26 players total??? I am sure you have upgrades on the FA list you can use...

here are a coupl of suggesstions...drop Ledezma outright and then drop Zito for a .5 pitcher or maybe a Lowry that has some use as a spot starter and pick up Erik Bedard.

I would then drop Kotsay outright and then drop Swisher for Ryan Church, no DH so can't upgrade there....only other options are 1B and I like Helton for your park more than Texiera and Loney....but you need slugging so you might want to make the move for Texiera anyway....

I might upgrade your pen with the leftover money....Rivera for Rincon maybe Brinton for Wainwright...

thats really about it, but Bedard should help a lot as well Church....at least put you over .500, it looks like you missed on any big names in waivers or the draft ...no one on your team was worth a top 2 or 3 pick...Abreu and Halladay might be woth a No.3 but that is it

Personally I would try to dump some starting pticher salary...second, since the leagues tend to be awash in right handed pitching I would look for hitters who can start and are balanced better towards right handed pitching. That said...its the luck of the dice...but its early, I started 10-20 and since then, after acquiring some righty-balanced hitting I've gone 62-43...worked for me.

Thanks for the insight everyone. Yes, I didn't get my top picks. Just Halladay and Vizquel.

The reason I have so many pitchers and hitters is that it's a[b:e13b34e7c7] no DH [/b:e13b34e7c7]league. Duffy is the pinch runner, Kotsay the back up CF. Encarnacion is Abreu's backup. I dropped Atkins who was seriously crap and had to get Crede due to the step down in pitching I was taking. I figured I'd take Cook because he played in Coors so he should be ok in Shea. Did get Church but someone else took Bedard last night.

Turtle is dead on.
You still can drop another player and with what you still have in cash (4.3 I think) could upgrade somewhere. I think you're more than fine with pitching, and I would try to upgrade to a bigger bat.

Ug!

How are you going to play both Texiera and Helton in a no DH league???? you know have a 5.5 million bench player and Crede is terrible, I was well aware this was a no DH when I posted the info....if you are worriede about pinch hitting...then get guys who are slanted one way to PH, not 1R or 1L guys like you have...I would have kept Atkins too...
