Basic Catcher Question

Basic Catcher Question

Postby LA Bear » Sat Jul 28, 2007 1:35 am

If your starting catcher is injured, and your back-up is injured. What is the fielding rating of a catcher who isn't labelled capable on his card?

All of your rated catchers CAN NEVER become injured at the same time. If you have a starting catcher injured and your backup catcher gets injured while your starter is still out then that means that you have a third player on your team that is catcher rated. This is the reason that I almost never have 3 players that are catcher rated on my roster at the same time.

There's only one situation where HAL would put a non-catcher behind the plate. If you have two catchers, and use the 2nd catcher as the DH, and the catcher gets injured, the DHing catcher will stay DH and HAL will put in a non-catcher just for that game.

There is another situation that has happened to me. If one of your catchers is injured and your last one is behind the plate HAL can PH or PR for that catcher. That is fine as long as the game ends during that inning but if it doesn't and the game goes into extra innings then one of your other bench players will be the catcher.

Is this for real? A 6 inj rated catcher, backing up a 6 inj rated catcher and HAL will always keep 1 healthy? That's too good to be true.

Yes, that's exactly the case. I've used a Varitek/Lieberthal platoon with good success for what it cost. Not incredible, but very livable.

NOT TRUE!!

Promise, that HAL will let your last catcher get injured, HOWEVER(!), for the rest of the current game ONLY!!

PLEASE, for the love of god, this must be the 1,000th time I have stated this. So, the original question is valid, and, I think its 5 range +5 arm, and the worst throwing there is allowed for a non rated catcher to have to be put in as catcher...

Leo is mistaken. Your last rated catcher can NEVER become injured. Many times I look for a very injury prone catcher as my backup. Sometimes I even go for two very injury prone catchers knowing that they are valued lower because of it and that both of them will never get injured at the same time. Lieberthal is a good choice for backup in the 2007 game because of his injury rating.

I guess the best way to prove this to Leo is for someone to post this question in the Suggestion/Questions thread and have Bernie acknowledge this fact. Most of us already know this is a fact so plan your roster accordingly.

We have this discussion every summer. LMB is correct, your 2nd catcher cannot get injured, period.

Whatever.... It does happen once in a great while where your last catcher gets injured, but for rest of game...

If Doug, Penngray that is, were still here, he would, I believe concur on my behalf.

But, believe what you shall. No, it doesnt happen often, but it does happen.
