Doubts about Dravecky

This the second time I've tried Dravecky--this time in Riverfront--and like the last time, he's getting bombed. After an opening series one hitter, he's had seven consecutive bad outings. I study his card and can't really find a bad season, but it's game 39 and I'm thinking very seriously about cutting him while I can still get 95%, given his 7.65 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. He's controlling LH very well but the righties are hitting him pretty hard.

Overall, the team is doing well--especially the hitting--so if I can just nail down a good starter in his slot, I should be solid. (I think Candelaria's a keeper despite his ERA.) I'm tempted to drop Dravecky for a cheaper SP (Boyd, Alexander, Rozema, Hass, Whitson and others are available) and use the spare cash to shore up my bullpen. Anyone have any thoughts? Can you see a reason to keep Dravecky? Has anyone had good luck with him? What puzzles me is that he doesn't seem to have a bad season, and he did pitch that opening series one-hitter.

Outta, I disagree re: not having a bad season. Take a closer look at '87. 9L!!!!! However, b/c I'm in your league, I think you should keep him for the rest of the year!

Though is still too early to tell, I suspect that you may have his 9L year. He is facing 80% righties at the moment. If you suspect that kind of ratio will continue, cut bait.

His WHIP isn't all that bad for a guy with a 7.65 ERA. I would try to trade him to another division without so many RHB. All of his years are servicable and someone should take a flyer on him.

I'm suspecting the 9L year myself. I've sent out a general trade offer. Let's see if that brings in anything.... If not, it's probably time to cut bait before the deadline hits. :wink:

[Edit:] OK, I got no trade nibbles so dropped him for Oil Can. We'll see how that turns out.

I took Dravecky out for a beer to find out the trouble, but his card just sat there in brooding silence. Maybe he's just got a bad attitude. :P

Dravecky was a bit upset when I dropped him--in fact he told me to take a long walk off a short pier.

But since his replacement, Oil Can Boyd, pitched a four hit shutout with no walks--winning the game 1-0--I couldn't get too upset, myself. :D

Thanks! There aren't a lof of 1-0 games in this league, so it's tough to lose one, as I know from experience. :wink:

I don't think he can really be THIS good, but if he can just keep me in some ball games from here on out, I'll be happy.

For my sake, and for the sake of the other teams in our league, I hope to hell he ain't this good...

It's 42 games into my innaugural Strato-o-Matic season and I am enjoying it immensely. I've already been involved in 21 1-run games and I've managed to lose all but 4 of those. My starting pitching's pretty sorted, I think (though more thought about my bullpen will be needed when I have the time), after a bit of a heartwrench about getting rid of Saberhagen, which was the right thing for me to do given the makeup of the team, ballpark and how he was performing. I made some hitting adjustments which so far are working out, lineup shuffles and fingers crossed about Guerrero... he's done ok. So far.

Have my doubts about Greenwell, but until someone better pops up on the horizon, I'll stick by him. I have fond memories of the real Greenwell when I was back east rooting for my Yankees to pound the Sox.
