80's live draft signup.

I was in a live draft with Sykes a while back -- he actually didn't participate in the draft -- as long as we let him have the Murph, he picked his 25 man roster after the other 11 teams had drafted -- I think it was called the Hoboken Scrap Pile team. The team did okay -- but the amazing thing was, that his hitting was actually pretty solid.

Point is, if he actually goes and spends his money on pitching in the draft, he KNOWS he can put together the hitting afterward ... maybe it's just a Murph team with a different strategy ... :shock: :shock:

Yup, the only thing we know for sure, is that he is not drafting for a stadium where Clemens, Hersh and Higuerra don't perform well in which is......none of them.

Is there a way to program your picks early yet? Im noticing that there are groups drafting within a minute of each other.

You can set proxies to pick when it is your turn. Press the Help link on the site and you'll see how it is done

Adam,

you can set proxies for your choices. You can group them, so that you could rank all your secondbasemen, then when you get one, it moves to on to your next group of choices.

If you click on "create a proxy", then "find name" and "enter" the players name comes up in the box. Take the players ID #, and type it in where it says "Player ID" --- don't select round at all. In group, put "1", then in "priority" you can rank the player in the order you want him picked. If you only want 1 player in that group picked, you put "yes" where it says "delete if group picked" ... that way it only picks ONE secondbaseman, then moves to your next group.

For example, you might rank your 2B as group 1, putting Sandberg as priority 1, whitaker as priority 2, doran as priority 3. Once the draft selects a 2B for you, it will move to your next group. In group 2, do the same thing; list your top 5 centerfielders; once one gets picked, it will delete the remaining ones you don't want, and move on to your third group, etc.

It's pretty easy. You can turn proxies on or off. I only turn mine on if I'm away for more than a couple hours.

I've been gathering stats on the side for days now with my completed 80's squads. (I will hopefully upload stuff once completed to share with all)

I'm finding that a majority (About 60% in early stages) of pitchers cards never meet their stat line for that year.

I have not started yet with my hitters, but...

As others have mentioned already, I can find hitters no matter what the FA pool looks like afterwards.

In my studies, I have found players who hit close to or better than their cards 80% of the time.

I have a feeling I will be in good shape when this is all over. :wink:

The plan is actually brilliant -- you know there are lots of $3 mill and $4 mill players that can hit in the Murph, but very few pitchers that perform there. Looking back at the results of our Benjamins league, you know that guys like Orel, Roger and Higgy can pitch there (or anywhere) ...

I'd have to agree with you .. I think you'll be just fine. Great strategy. Way to mix it up !

I've yet to make a "live" pick, and am suffering accordingly. Where is the power my team craves? My proxies are ok at getting my 1 up the middle defense, but there is no fear of "blast fence" training from this group....

Jim... this is my first live draft, but I'm thinking that the ballpark strategy differs completely in this format than a regular draft. In this format, I think it's a case of picking the stadium that fits your team, rather than the other way around.
