I have Gagne as set up and closer on my team and so far he has won more games than any starter and pitched 52 innings. However, I only have 4 saves from him. Should I take him off set up as well as close and put Mahay as SU? Obviously I want him to pitch and win games if possible but I also need him to close. I had him on do not enter till 8th recently and he was put in to pitch 4 innings twice in 3 days!

Advice?

if it ain't broken dont fix it. plus if you ask me you want gagne pitching as many innings as possible, so your settings seem to be good for that.

Suppose so but I just worry who is likely to close if he gets replaced. He only has 4 saves out of 10 yet he is my designated closer.

You want your best/most expensive RP to get the most innings.
So leave it as is. (Leave your closer settings blank btw...)

Check your R/L splits though. Rincon and Brower have faced alot of batters to their weak side. I imagine because your SP's haven't been doing the job so far. Still, check their individual settings to see if "Don't face R/L batters" is checked...

If you want to make sure that Gagne is your last pitcher in there, and he's the one who gets the save, I would make sure he doesn't come in before the 7th inning.

On another note... he leads your team in wins. He's got a solid ERA, although his WHIP is a little high by the standards of his card (Turner Field being a culprit there), and the saves are being registered by other people. At least someone is getting the saves, and you're still getting the solid production out of Gagne. If I was in first place and Gagne threw 200+ innings, and Jim Brower ended up with all the saves, I would just be glad that someone converted in the ninth inning.

I might put Mahay setup verses LH to take a little stress off Gagne and make him available for more closing appearances. As to the innings I might take a look and see if he is pitching often in blowout games where you really do not care who pitches. If that is so you might want to change something to channel him to pitching in close games where you need him and thus be more available come the 9th inning.

Setup setting may override do not use until 8th, especially if other pitchers were used in last couple games or earlier in this game. If you really do not want him used until the save situation has arrived then make him the closer and take him off setup. If you have him setup though realize that he will be used in the setup role which means the 7th inning and occasionally the 6th which means he will be tired before the 9th and someone else is going to be used to close. The choice is yours.
