How quickly things can change. On 29 Nov the Blue Party maintained a commanding 20 game lead in the overall standings over the Reds and led all three divisions, conceding only the wild card spot to the Reds in the battle for the post season. But that 20 game lead has dissipated like Dean poll numbers and the surging Red Party has knocked 12 of those games off the board. Blue Party still leads in wins with a 130-122 record.

In the post season race the SpinDoctors (23-19) in the East have won 8 of 10 to maintain Red hold on the wild card spot and the Republicans (24-18 ) have upended the Time Bombers to take over 1st in the Central. The Wobblies (29-13) still rule the East with the best record in the league. The Progressives (24-18 ) have kept a firm hold on the West, but lurking just 3 games back are both the Red Raiders and Beulahs.

Things are starting to get pretty interesting.

PS - And let's not forget Red and Radical, who after a tough start recently won 7 out 10, more than doubling the teams prior win totals and forcing the opposition to take them seriously.

This news just in (AP report): The recently merged DC newspaper Washington Times-Post has begun running a front page column on the progress of the Blue vs Red Party league as interest in the league sweeps the political spectrum in the nation's capital. Quoted with permission of the Times-Post:

The irony of a sporting event resulting in Blue party control of both coasts while Red holds the central was not lost on Washington insiders, although both sides are reporting polls that show the remaining 61% "leaning their way". The Red Party is asking for a vote recount in the Championship Race, claiming that etdefender's Progressives and zimharry's Wobblies are wooing voters with visions of new publicly financed ballparks which will be used as subsidized medical centers during the off-season. Scoobysnacks Republicans also came under attack from Blue Party, claiming that the Republicans were using scare tactics by threatening to stop sales of beer and hinting that Red Party voters would be required to register for national ID cards and be tracked by microchip. "Stopping beer sales at the ballpark goes way beyond human decency" claimed one pundit who refused to be identified. When Blue Party officials were asked about the other leading contender of the moment, at large candidate SpinDoctors, the team was dismissed as just hot air and too much bloviating. Stay tuned.

League Presidential Race: Blue Leads 3-1. Blue Party currently holds the East and West Districts and has taken over the at large spot. Red Party holds the Central District.

What has changed: Blue Party took over the lead in the wild card race. Congratulations to durantjerry's Time Bombers.

The News in the West is that despite the charge of the Red Raiders (7-3 in the last 10 games) the Red Party challenger has fallen further behind in the polls as the Progressives (8-2) continue to build their fan base. The Red Raiders are now 7 games out but remain staunchly optimistic.

In the East the Wobblies have been living up to their name, maintaining their strong home town appeal (23-10 record) while failing to impress the rest of the district (19-20). Wobblies struggles opened the door to Red Party challenger SpinDoctors, who managed to slam the door in their own face by being equally mediocre. The SpinDoctors troubles away from home (17-22) are even more pronounced than those of the Wobblies. Still, only 4 games seperate the two teams.

In the Central the Republicans remain in control by 4 games despite the continued strong showing by former leader Time Bombers. Also credit the Time Bombers with upending the SpinDoctors and taking away the wild card lead in the one major shakeup in the positions of the two parties.

A new poll just released by Fox News shows Red Party popularity on the rise and the hopes of two major Blue Party candidates suddenly in doubt.

Who is in the spotlight of trouble? Division leaders for the east and west, the Wobblies and Progressives. The Wobblies lead in the polls has fallen to 2 games and private sources say the arm twisting is going to intensify to get out that blue vote. The heretofore untouchable Progressives were upended due to a surprisingly strong showing from the RedwoodCity Reds, giving the Red Raiders confidence that a shrinking 5 game lead can be overcome.

Overall in last nights action in the league that has come to mirror party hopes, Red Party swept three series against the Blues and finished the night with an 11-1 record. Alan Colmes, on the show Hannity and Colmes, acknowledged the "spurt" by the Red Party but played down the importance. "It's just a one day bump in the polls. Blue Party still holds two districts and is locked in a tie for the at large spot. The Progressives (45-30) have the best record in the league and in my opinion is uncatchable."

Hannity gleefully jumped in, correcting Colmes. "The Progressives used to have the best record. That position now belongs to the Republicans (46-29). Ha!"

"Well, I guess you're right there," rejoined Colmes, "but the Blue Party still holds an 8 game overall lead despite this temporary spurt."

CNN, MSNBC, PBS, ABC, NBC, CBS, and XYZ all reported that their poll numbers showed the Blue Party maintaining a commanding lead in all races, to within +/- 5%.

Thanks, Zim! I've been on vacation and more recently from some crazy virus. Going to be hard for Red to catch Blue in wins, but as stated the post season spots are still very much up for grabs.

As we near the end of the trade deadline and the beginning of the final run of intra-league play, we'll see what develops.

League Presidential Race: Red leads 2-1-1. Red holds the east and central districts. Blue holds the west and the at large spot is tied.

What has changed: The Red Party has made a strong push since New Year's Eve, getting back much of the ground that had been lost earlier. Blue party's 16 game advantage overall is still a sizable lead in the Championship race. Division leaders have been padding their leads over opposite party 2nd place rivals and all enjoy at least a 5 game spread. The Red Raiders 8-2 record over the last 10 games coupled with the Time Bombers 3-7 struggles have put both teams in a tie for the wild card race.

Intra-division play has begun, and with most of the vote now counted, those district battles are sure to be lively.

League Presidential Race: Red Party Leads 3-1. Division leads remain unchanged with SpinDoctors leading the East, Republicans leading the Central, and Progressives leading the West. Wild Card leader is Red Raiders.

The latest poll from the Washingtom Times-Post leaves no doubt that the remaining 7 percent of the voters firmly believe that either the Blue or Red parties will win the Championship race. You heard it here first (actually second since the Washington Post-Times said it first, uh, never mind).

With just 12 games remaining in the season, only the Central District Red Party team Republicans appear to have a lock on the election with an 8 game lead over the Time Bombers. TB has set their sights on at large candidate leader Red Raiders (86-64), vowing to stay in the trenches and make up the 5 game deficit. In the West the Red Raiders continue their surge and are within three games of the lead; however, should RR topple the Progressives, the Progressives or Time Bombers would be prohibitive favorites to win the wild card. However that turns out, the likely result is two Red Party and one Blue Party winner.

So all eyes turn to the East, where a major battle for the lead is in progress. The Wobblies, who led the district through most of the season, faltered in the second half and the SpinDoctors took advantage of that to amass an 8 game lead. But that lead has been whittled down to just 4 games and right now this reporter believes that the Wobblies seem to have the momentum, beating the SpinDoctors twice last night and making a bold statement with a 34-8 third game victory.

In what might be shaping up to a season ending cliff hanger, the SpinDoctors travel into Wobblies territory for the final three games of the regular season. The SpinDoctors lead in the head to head competition by a close 11-10 margin.

With the Championship locked up by Blue Party and all districts reporting winners, all that is left for the post season is the matchups. That will have to wait for the results from tonight's games since the Republicans and Progressives are locked in a 96-63 tie for the league's best record.

The Red Party has the advantage of numbers in the post season and can gaurantee a spot in the Finals. But Blue Party certainly has a formidable foe in veteran politician etdefender and the power pitching Progressives.
