5-Man Rotation Question: Who to Round Out This Staff?

5-Man Rotation Question: Who to Round Out This Staff?

Postby raslavens » Mon Dec 12, 2005 3:45 pm

I'm in a $100M league dominated by pitchers parks. I'm in Yankee '27.

The start of my 5-man staff looks great:
Adams
Reulbach
Russo

Then I have about $12M to spend on the 4th and 5th slots. Currently I have Taylor and Donovan, but I could also go with Killian and Phillippe.

To make it even more complicated, in theory I could downgrade the 4th and 5th spots (to, say, Overall and Donovan... or maybe even sneak in Hunter to pitch in pitcher's parks?) to upgrade my offense a bit.

C Parrish
1B R.Collins
2B Hornsby
SS Yount
3B Buford
LF C.Jones
CF Doby
RF Haas

Any suggestions/ideas gladly appreciated!

Is there any possibility of getting a 3 day rest guy to anchor your pitching staff? My best success with 5 man rotations has always come when I've had that kind of situation. I've won championships this way.

I've lost in the playoffs (consistently  ) when I've relied on five 4 day rest guys. The reason, and I'm sure you already know it, is that in a five game semi final (for example), your opponent has his ace on the mound, and you have your #5 starter.

If you can, I would get a 3 day rest SP to be your ace. Then keep Adams, and Russo, and try to get some cheaper guys to fill out your rotation.

You might grab a cheap starter who dominates in pitchers parks. Two who come to mind are Oil Can Boyd and Ceccarelli. You could spot start him.

Jim Turner at 4.78 is good in a pitcher's or hitter's park. I use Phillippe on practically all my 5 man staffs and he's excellent for the money (5.98).
