Talk about a bargain. Take a look at the season Jim Bagby Sr. gave me...

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/atg2/team/team_other.html?user_id=67646

And yet, he didn't get the cy young award, Pete Alexander did

Alexander 20 wins 11 losses 1 save 326.2 IP 275 Hits 110 ER 99 BB 233 SO 3.03 ERA 1.15 WHIP

What gives???
Bagby had more wins, less losses, and a lower ERA???

For some reason strikeouts way heavy into Cy Young voting by the computer.

Usually you can blame the voters from the NY papers. They probably voted for Whitey Ford, whether he played or not...

No, I'm not bitter about how they vote in MVP and Cy Young award contests...

More Kudos to Bagby, he tied with Dean for the lead in HR by a pitcher with 2.

By the way, I love that team. Right up my alley!

Well since Pete was on my team in that league, I thought I might offer my perspective, if not my condolences.

Pete led the league in strikeouts. Bagby had 57. Pete had 13 complete games and pitched 50 more innings than Bagby. Bagby did not make the list of complete games pitched. Pete's era was lower than Bagby's relative to their respective team e.r.a.s, also Pete played in Baker and Bagby in Sportsman's 46.

Still Bagby did have a great record and solid e.r.a. Interestingly Bagby only finished 3rd in the Cy Young voting, behind Brown. I don't know who I would have voted for, but the results should have been closer than they were 116 Pete 51 Bagby.

Bagby did tie for the league lead in pitcher homers though.

I always love it when I'm in Baker and one of my pitchers gets the Cy Young. Especially when the team then wins the World Series (like this one). 8)

What sort of pitching settings gets you saves from Alexander and Demaree?

I'd have voted for Bagby...

Bagby was robbed! But then, I might be a TAD biased here.

I love Bagby, Sr. I use him frequently. I once had a team with both Pete and Koufax. Koufax won the Cy Young, with Pete coming in 2nd, even though Pete won more games, had more complete games, had a better ERA, better BA against, but Koufax had more Ks. There were other pitchers in the league who won more games than either Pete or Koufax, but they ended up further down the Cy Young chain. go figure....

I'd have voted for Medich. Can't beat that ERA.
