How does Adam Everett give up a 1B on a GB(SS)X ??

Isn't a 1-rated SS an automatic OUT on a gb(SS)X ?

Check this out. Adam Everett at SS, and I've double-checked the box score to make sure there was no substitution.

*** TOP OF INNING 8 ***
SUBSTITUTE P - Mariano Rivera
SUBSTITUTE C - Yorvit Torrealba
0 E.German 2 Single (LF) b-1
0 1 J.Edmonds 3 Single (SS) 1-2 b-1 gb(SS)x
0 12 J.Bay 6 Strike Out b-0
1 12 L.Overbay 4 Strike Out b-0
2 12 R.Zimmerman 4 Ground Out (SS) b-0
*** BOTTOM OF INNING 8 ***

Moreover, about a week ago, Adam Everett made three errors in a game, causing two unearned runs in a game we lost 2-1. That was maddening, but I shrugged it off with "It happens."

But is Everett miscoded? Or am I not remembering my X-chart properly?

Tom--After reading your post I got curious myself and pulled out my super advanced fielding chart and it seems to me there is only one thing that could have happened here...Its late in the game so your infield must have been playing in...or you were holding the runner on first...The chart says a runner being held on first by a LH pitcher that the 1b AND SS are responsible for holding runner on. If the symbol G3# is rolled a single occurs instead... Or another instance is if infield is in and ss is moving to cover second and the ball is ripped through his vacated hole... Those are the only things that make sense. The second instance must be what happened as Riveria is RH. Hope that helps

I appreciate everyone's input. I'll buy the Super Advanced Fielding Rating Chart [Supplemental Information, subsection 4a-1] explanation.

Rare things like this do actually happen in baseball. But only once a season...right?

Thank you, Pelzer & DurantJerry !

[/quote:6186d40eea]Uh, no; runners get held on base all the time.[quote:6186d40eea]The chart says a runner being held on first by a LH pitcher that the 1b AND SS are responsible for holding runner on. It almost surely was not infield in, with no man on 3rd and DAVID ORTIZ (a C bunter, plus he's David Ortiz) up. The problem is that you've got the chart mixed up. The SS is responsible for holding when a lefty [i:6186d40eea]batter[/i:6186d40eea] is up, not a lefty pitcher. In this case, it's very likely that Ichiro was being held on 2B. Since the batter was the lefty Ortiz, Everett was the responsible fielder.
