Two draft questions.

Two draft questions.

Postby seeker57 » Thu Dec 15, 2005 8:38 am

(1) How is draft order determined? Is it random or determined by the order you join the league?

(2) What is the chance of someone getting P. Alexander is they list him as first choice?

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the insanity.
From the Rules/FAQ:

The Waiver Priority order starts with the team that lost out on the most draft picks in the Draft, and proceeds down the line until the team that lost out on the fewest picks is last in the order. If there is a tie for the number of draft picks lost in the Draft, the Waiver Priority spots are randomly assigned to those teams.

Not sure what % you have of getting him, but if you really want him, you better put him # 1.

JUMA, thanks for the reply, but I really meant the original draft, not the waivers. I'm trying to determine what determines who gets first crack at the players and who gets the number 12 choice. Is it chance, or the order you joined the league?

A live draft? We each pick a state and use pick 3 lottery numbers from the night the league fills to determine drafting order.

It all depends on your draft card and the order you listed the players. It makes no difference what order you joined theleague. If you listed Pete #1 on your card, and nobody else did, you will get him. If more than one person listed him #1, it will be random as to who gets him mrom those managers. If you missed out on Pete, you will receive the next most expensive pitcher [b:7139f55b72]that is not listed on any other draft card[/b:7139f55b72] be advised, that HAL makes no differentiation between * and non* pitchers, so if you list camnitz, for example in the #3 slot, and someone else did as well, the player losing out on camnitz may end up with Babe Adams instead.

It's all very complicated, but the process then runs for all of the draft slots.

If you are the only person who listed a player on your draft card, you will get that player. Thus the "Stick Mays/Alexander at the bottom just in case no one else lists him" draft strategy.

Back in ATGI 12 lunatics did a comprehensive tst league to try to figure out exactly how HAL resolved draft issues, Anyone have any data on that?

I believe the draft order is random after the league is filled. Could be wrong.

My guess? 75% to 100% in a TSN league. 50% in a private league.

That's still better than if you have Willie Mays as #1.

Some strategery:

Make your list in order. Take the first 5 (or 3), and put them at the bottom. If you have very good players at 6-12, you'll get the core of a good team. If any of the bottom 5(or 3) fall thru the cracks, that's a bonus.

I think this was an offshoot of someone putting Mays at the first spot a million times and never getting him.
