Old Time Strat-head venturing into new territory...input. pl

Greetings all. Been a Strat fanatic since I was like 8 years old. With my brothers and friends have played countless seasons (compiling the stats ourselves in those days :? ). When the computer game came out I played a few seasons of that too, so am somewhat familiar with Hal's idiosynchracies. Still, reading the boards here I realize this is a whole new animal, so without further ado I present you my first foray into trying to draft a team. What you think, suggestions etc. I will note that two teams in my division are using Cellular one as their park.

Thanks for any comments positive and negative.

First welcome, have fun.

second, lets tell you how to post a link to your team.

go to the statistics page, then the team link. Click on your team on that page. Then copy that URL, is should have a ?userid=xxxx where the x's are the userid for your team. Then we can all see your team.

Thanks for the welcome and instructions, here's another try.

BTW, for better or worse at this stage German is my 1b, Freel platooning at 3rd with Itzuris. Encarnacion is bench backup for 1st or 3rd and pinch hitter.

Solid D up the middle but my corners are a nightmare  .

Maroth is mop up guy.

I don't like Beltran or Bonds really in Shea, all those ballpark homeruns will be wasted.

For instance, let's take a little look. L Scott is available, and to me is one of my favs in this set. He has the MOST total bases vs RH pitching, great OB on both sides, and super low double plays. Vs L you lead him off and German 2nd, vs R lead German off, Scott 2nd. You could just get a cheap glove for CF like Kotsay. Then if you move German to 3b instead of 1b, and get rid of Encarcion, you could use the extra $$ to grab a 1b like Overbay. Someone like Diz makes a good DH, or DH german and get a better 3b.

If you have any extra $$, I'd put it into your pitching. You have more than enough bullpen, I'd not like to see Maroth get 80 innings or more, adn replace him with a .50 SP only so he rarely, if ever pitches.

well hope I at least gave you some food for thought!

Many thanks for the quick input! I hear your points regarding Bonds and Beltran....

A Few items:

A) It is a non DH league

B) 2 divison rivals are in Cell one (Is schedule weighted towards division?)

C) I was worrind about R innnings so wanted Maroth there to eat up garbage time (especially in Cell one) saving Soriano, Feliciano et al for meaningfull innings. Can also provide a decent enough start in case of injury.

D) I like your ideas a bunch, definite food for thought. Kotsay is not available, Damon is, as is Overbay.

If this is a no Dh league Bonds is wasted. no one plays a 5 in the field, all those hits become doubles and triples, not just singles.

The schedule is heavily weighted towards your division foes. 72 games worth. But a mantra of the online game is play to your park. You won't be able to bash with the Cell teams when you're on the road, but their BPHR's will be long outs at Shea. Half your games will be at home so prepare your team to excel there.

Option B (requires 2.2 mil from your pitchers )

If you get Scott, you could keep Freel and play him in RF. Speed is a large asset in pitching parks. Your free agents are picked clean of 3B so German goes there. Beltran >>>>Roberts who is available. He and Damon are a better fit for your park than Beltran as geekor said. That gives you the $ for Scott who I would get from Sheffield (since Freel is now in RF) who makes half of a great DH platoon in a hitters park, but at Shea.....

Keep Bonds as your DH. Lots of natural HR's and he'll win games for you on the road. Hawpe >>>> Overbay

Welcome to the game!

First of all a primer on the type of hitters that tend to work well in pitcher's parks like Shea. I like to lead off with two guys with great OB (like German), I like one guy who has a lot of natural homers, I actually would keep Beltran, although I agree Bonds is a weak choice. And then fill your other slots with guys with good BA and lots of Doubles and Triples to knock in your other hitters. In Pitching, Go the opposite, guys who give up few hits, and you can afford a few BPHR cause they will mostly turn into flyouts. Walks aren't the end of the world.

It is seldom useful to have more than 3 relief pitchers who cost over 1.50. They don't pitch enough quality innings to be worth it. I'd dump Feliciano and Parento for cheaper pitchers. And you have better inning eater options than Maroth, Villareal is one example, Downs is Another. use saved money to upgrade at 1b, and 3rd and 4th starters.
Hawpe is another questionable choice for a pitcher's park.

I like that you have a lot of guys who hit righties well, since tha is most of what you'll see.

Thanks for the input guys, I retooled taking some suggestions into consideration. Shed a bit of relief money, and Added C.C. Sabats. Gone are Hawpe, Bonds and Encarnacion. In are Davanon, for platoon, youkilis to play 1st agaist righties and LF against lefties. Also added Aybar for backup 3b bench depth.
