Most loved/hated 2005

Postby Roscodog » Fri Dec 16, 2005 2:59 am

It seems in STRAT everybody has a list of a few favorite players that they consider to be "money" and always want, for one reason or another and another list of guys they consider garbage (usually due to poor performance). List your top 5 loved/hated for 2005
(obviously everyone probably loved RJ, but think of guys you consistantley were able to acquire, take into consideration how they performed form you in relation to their cards, sim stats, price ect...

MONEY
-Brian Schneider (a bargain)
-Jason Isringhausen (with the exception of my last team, always money)
-Lew Ford (always consistent)
-Sean Casey (great in any ball park)l
-Jason Schmidt (worth every penny)

GARBAGE
-Vinny Castilla (Good D no O)
-Kelvim Escobar (might as well have a $.50 pitcher)
-Akinori Otsuka (in relation to card always under preformed)
-Jeff Kent (No D or O)
-Steve Finley (only took him once but his #'s were terrible and I played in MILLER PARK)

I'm sure some may hate my money players, but share anyways, start an argument, that's always fun.

I feel your pain when it comes to HELTON, he usuallly put up good #'s but no where near what his card was. Not worth the $$$

I like Rolen and Manny

MoneyHitters:

Bonds - worth every penny
Glaus - Lethal combination with Barry(any park)
Wilk - BA .200 but always 35+HRs/100+Runs/90+RBI
Freel - 100 runs for only 2.43M
Huff - Best 05' Bargain

MoneyPitchers:

H. Ramirez - pitched like a 7M SP
Santana - never had him, but was best in every league I was in
Rivera - No RP came close in performance vs price(Except Smoltz)
Vasquez - Best SP value in the set
Sheets - also never had him - but won 20 games in every league

Gross Underperformers:

Helton
Edmunds
Arod
Walker
Wells

Overrated Pitchers:

Clemens - seldom over .500 in any league
Schmidt - See Clemens
Gagne - ERA usually well over 5.00 on every team
Leiter - most overrated LHP
Garcia - Another .500 SP every league
Some interesting Stats:

In all the leagues I was in no pitchers dominated like Santana and Sheets - including RJ - who was a sub .500 SP in 3 of the 13.

The only RP that came close to matching value to Rivera was Smoltz - a total bargain at 3.01M and Gagne got lit up like a xmas tree.

Vasquez's Win Pct was usually as good as Clemens or Schmidt for only 1.59M

H Ramirez beat Randy Johnson in heads up play more than he lost.

Gagne

Postby genevajack » Fri Dec 16, 2005 8:09 am

Had him once and he had an ERA over 10 the first 20 innings. Adjusted the relief settings so that Gonzalez comes in setup against lefties and now his ERA is close to 4.00. But he still has almost a double digit amount of blown saves after 90+ games.

Love em:
1. Chris Gomez: Super sub who can start against lefties on any team I own.
2. Matt Lawton: Has given me more bang for my buck than most players.
3. Mike Lowell: Forget the 5L. This guy can hit!!!
4. Brad Wilkerson: Won't hit for average, but will get on base and pop some home runs, and great defense to boot!
5: Bronson Arroyo: For the few teams I've had him on, always seemed to perform above average.

Hate em:
1. Kelvim Escobar: Had him on two teams thinking the first time was just poor rolls of the dice. NEVER again!
2. Jim Thome: I probably would take one more shot with him, but seriously underperformed the one time I had him.
3. Adam Kennedy: I've had him on more teams than I would like for lack of better options, but I know that not only will he underperform for me during the season, he'll be injured just in time for the playoffs. He's my kiss of death.
4. Manny Ramirez: Couldn't even stomach a whole season from him and cut his sorry butt, and this coming from someone who rarely dumps even .50 players.
5. Steve Finley: Have him on my current Safeco team after seeing him perform great for others. While not expecting a whole lot, I was expecting at least a little bit.

One guy I haven't put on either list yet is Jim Edmonds. I'm going to love him if he can make it past the playoffs without getting an injury, but going to hate him if his timing is such that he'll find a way to make it to the dl just in time for the playoffs. Through the first 139 games, I've been waiting for that dreaded 15 gamer with a great backup plan for when he does. It hasn't happened so I'm guessing he's decided to wait just long enough to break my heart.
