Postby BRIANCHIVIS » Sat Aug 27, 2005 10:59 pm

I am wondering if we have enough players from the 80's to make a team of current managers. Help me out with thins, I kind of don't know all the managers.

c, Mike Scocia
1b, Make Hargrove
2b,
ss, Alan Trammell
3b, Phil Garner, was he 3b?

You might want to open up pitching coaches to fill your pitching staff - I can't think of any current managers who were pitchers. Off the top of my head, Hershiser, Righetti, Mike Maddux could fill in.

But, Willie Randolph could play 2B. Buddy Bell and Clint Hurdle were both 3B (and might have played some outfield too). Dusty Baker was an OF. Ozzie Guillen is another SS. Melvin and Bochy and Gibbons were catchers. I feel like Lloyd McClendon was a corner OF and 1B. Lee Mazzilli (although he got fired) would be a good OF.

Thats pretty good, thank you. I guess we could open it up to the pitching coaches. How many players is that?

I'm betting Pete Rose was the Manager of the Reds for a while. He can play many positions and sign autographs too! :P

Davey Lopes, Terry Francona, Lou Pinella, Art Howe and Don Baylor are some other 80's players that have managed.

It is funny that not more pitchers have been managers.

It's pretty consistent throughout baseball history that relatively few pitchers have been managers. Not sure what this means, but it's been true for a long time.
