Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Sykes, I could easily give you 3 or more very good seasons by Dusty Baker. I never said Mike Marshall can't have a good season. Just about anyone in the '80's game can have a good season, especially if used enough. But after playing 40+ seasons, I can assure you that Mike Marshall rarely gets drafted and many times rarely even gets picked up during the season as a FA. Why is that? Because he's overpriced for the output that he will give year in and year out on a consistent basis.

Also consider that you ALWAYS play in the Murph. That's just about the only stadium that Marshall is servicable because of his BP HR's. If you're in just about any other stadium (save Kingdome) and you may know what I mean. His OBP is just awful. But again, that's just my opinion.

I went through the 15 BTT80s leagues I've participated in. In all of those leagues (15x12=180 teams), not one  had Terry Puhl on their roster at the end of the year. I don't doubt he could have a good year or two out there, but he sure hasn't been highly used at his current salary!

It'll be fun to see how he does during this seaspn.

I must say Terry Puhl came to mind as my first choice for this round. Having said that I do think he has some value as he plays 3 of positions and is not hurt by any BP. Seems like a decent big ballpark choice.

Keep in mind gentlemen that I was not crying about your choices or over-priced players, but rather was getting excited as I find value in those players, so they are not as over-priced in my eyes.

Indeed... that's what is fun about this league.... There are a few players I kind of like that have been selected already... Personally... I love taking a chance on Dw Murphy. With the right card in the right BP he can be quite good... and Fernandez... as good as he can be certainly qualifies as over-priced.

any of these guys can be really good... I like having the subjective element included in this theme. Heck... you could have made a case that Clemens, Gooden, Hershiser, Blyleven, or even Schmidt are over-priced.
