HAL substitutes Bynum for Ichiro

Postby JEFFFESPERMAN » Wed Oct 17, 2007 6:21 am

Has anyone ever had this happen before? Bynum pitch hits for pitcher in the 9 spot in the bottom of the 10th inning and is then inserted for Ichiro in centerfield as a defensive replacement in a bizarre double switch that cost me the game in the 11th when Bynum gives up a single and two-base error on the fielder X-chart. Does anyone have a clue how to prevent this from happening again.

Welcome to BIZARRO world where a 4e25 is a better fielder than a 1(-5).

Sorry man...no explanation.

don't think it cost you the game though, because there was a walk and 2 more singles after that.

To be fair, I was assuming that Ichiro catches the first ball for out one so that Holliday's strikeout is out three. I may still have lost this game in the end, but I had to vent.

since it was a single and an error, it was probably a throwing error, but who the heck knows!!

there were no unearned runs, so it must have just been a throwing error. Still not a great managerial decision from our friend though.

Ichiro is a RF primary. PH was not the last out, Ichiro was. HAL then says he must put the pitcher in the new "9 slot" and pulls Ichiro because Bynum qualifies at CF.

While not our choice, this is why HAL did it. HAL is a program. Programs have logic. Not human logic, but conditions that are followed when A, then B and then C happens.
