Is this team underachieving?

I expected a little more out of Scott and Quinlan. Pitching wise Johnson and Maine aren't giving much. Heilman and Putz are getting the bulk of the reliever innings which is what I wanted. Escobar has been in and out of the lineup which was expected. Here are the lineups, maybe I can do some tweaking there. Most of the teams are using neutral to pitching parks.

vs. LHP
Suzuki
German
Scott
Escobar
Jones
Gload
Cabrera
Ruiz
Quinlan

vs. RHP

German
Scott
Suzuki
Jones
Escobar
Snyder
Gload
Winn
Cabrera

the team really doesn't look too bad, and you are only 1 game under .500. I good streak and you're ok. A few things that I notice are; I've used Ichiro leading off and haven't had success with it, but he's hitting lights out for you so far, so that isn't a problem. I would move Scott down against lefties. He's not a great hitter against lefties, so batting him 3rd will hurt you. You could even put German leading off and move Ichiro to 3rd. Ichiro hits lefties well. I would say to mostly just hang in there though. It's a long season.

Your stats are excellent at this point. IF anything, I would say you might be over achieving a bit!

I don't like Johnson here, he is more of a hitting park pitcher. Maine is great in Kaufmann, as are Martinez and Peavy. Verlander is a dud here.

Overall you have a very solid team that should do quite well IMO....

Do I need to replace Johnson or Verlander? I really don't want to do a releasing at this point.

Although Johnson is not my favorite, He will be fine there, and I don't really see anyone in his $$ range available that is any better. Verlander is the same, although I prefer Contreras to him, but they are very similar.

If you want to get a LHSP (which might be nice since you don't have one, although I do not know the makeup of your division) Gorzellany is available, and would do as well there as Verlander or Contreras...Or you could opt Johnson out for Rich Hill, who is another good LHSP in Kaufmann.

Too bad you can't swing Sabbathia, he is very nice here. I also like Sower here, I use him quite a bit too.

some players are starting bad, but I don't like your lineups at all. I'd do this if it was me:

vs. LHP
Scott
German
Suzuki
Escobar
Quinlan
Jones
Gload
Ruiz
Cabrera

vs. RHP

Suzuki
German
Scott
Jones
Escobar
Gload
Snyder
Winn
Cabrera

For some reason this team just doesn't seem like its going to make it. I've made some wholesale changes to starting rotation, but they didn't seem to help. Oh well.

Wow, almost made the playoffs. Came from 9 down in the final round of division play and went 22-11. Unfortunately missed the playoffs by 1 stinking game. Anyway, thanks to all those that helped.
