The best laid plans of mice and men...

I tried to get cute with the autodraft. I loaded the top 10 with top OPS guys at each position, middle w/ reasonable starting pitching, and filling the rest with decent cheapie relievers and scrub bench players.

I was hoping to land most of my offensive guys, figuring I would miss a few and fix the bullpen in waivers and free agency with the excess cash.

Well I went 3 for 10 in my top 10. The funny thing was that a couple of the guys in my top 10 were not drafted in the previously leagues I was in (Chipper, German, Sizemore, Guillen). I wanted German to be my 2b, so I ended up w/ two 3B. Silver lining is that I'm third in waivers.

Anyway here it goes:

Right now I'm looking at

1B - Johnson?
2B - ?
3B - Beltre/Chavez/?
SS - Reyes
LF - Manny
CF - Wells
RF - Scott
C - Barrett?
DH - Ross/Matsui

? = I'm considering replacements.

wow, you better hit the lights out because your pitching and D are really, really bad. I see you have 10 mill to play with though. Use all of it in pitching and D and you should be ok.

You should play Scott in LF, where he is a 3, and DH ManRam. Then maybe look for a RF OR use Ross and Gross, Jenkins, Davanon, Guiel or any other decent RF that hits RH's well.

Obviously you need help in the pen.

Still working on fixing pitching staff. Was able to pick up Cabrera to play 3b. I did decide to drop ManRam for Theriot as I lacked a legitimate leadoff hitter. I used leftover funds for Oswalt. Otsuka/Gonzalez for the back of the pen. I'd like to upgrade Beckett, too many #, but I'm not sure where the $$ will come from. I'm considering going cheaper at 1B like A Gonzalez of even Atkins, but would prefer a LH bat here.

Hizzy - I've played several times at Citizens Bank Park this year. Not crazy about Johnson @ 1B. How about Norton or Laroche as a cheaper alternative. I think you MUST maximize your LH power in this park! How about Ibanez. He is usually available and has had some monster years for me. A platoon with him and Kielty is awesome. You might conisder another lefty to replace Bonderman. He struggled for me in Citizens. I think you need someone to gobble up some innings in your pen, maybe free up some money and grab someone like Rodney (R2). Oliver has been pretty good (R4). For some reason, have had good success with Borkowski and Villareal as cheapies. Wells and Cabrera are steady, but in this park you might get by cheaper (Teahen ?) and improve your pitching a little. Good luck. J Law
