Durham is a more consistent performer than Joyner. Durham has better OB and usually better SLG%. It more than makes up for the defense when compared to Joyner. He can also steal a base or two which will come in handy in your park. I would save the cash. You always need to make moves once the season is under way. Its nice to have some money to play with or facilitate a trade. I dont think I would swap Singleton for the players you mentioned. He has a nice OB and some power too.

Tentative lineup

Postby PaddyLanePounders » Fri Dec 23, 2005 9:45 pm

How could these lineups be improved?

vs R
Kal Daniels
Ozzie Smith
George Brett
Kirby Puckett
Danny Tartabull
Darrell Porter
Ken Singleton
Leon Durham
Willie Randolph

vs L
Ozzie Smith
Willie Randolph
George Brett
Kirby Puckett
Danny Tartabull
Richie Zisk
Ken Singleton
Leon Durham
Darrell Porter

Possible trade proposals:

1) Singleton and .75 rp for Dwight Evans (creates a 3-4-2 lineup)

2) Kal Daniels and Richie Zisk for Evans (creates a 3-4-2 lineup)

3) Danny Tartabull and Steve Farr for Evans (keeps 3-3-3 lineup)

Goal being to put a -4 arm in RF with 1 range, who still has high ob% and slg%.

Tentative rotations of opponents looks to be 16 LHP and 32 RHP. Vast majority of relievers are righty. I'm leaning towards proposal #3.

This offense looks really promising to me.

You've got productive hitters in every lineup spot--unless you have really bad luck you're going to score some runs. Don't be in a rush to make a trade with this team. Dwight Evans is a great player but I'd be inclined to stick with what you have and see what years you get. Don't underestimate Singleton. Three of his years are monster seasons and if you get one of those you've got a real bargain. I think you can afford to wait and see what you've got.

I would, however, somewhat adjust your lineups just to put your high OPB guys near the top. You'll need to fine-tune them as you learn the years and get a sense of who has good OBP this year, who has good power, who can hit RHP, who can hit LHP, etc. Sometimes these are very different from year to year for each player--for example, Puckett has power some years but not others, and Durham hits RHP better most years, but one year he's better vs LHP.

But, for starters, I'd be inclined to bat Ozzie and Randolph 1-2 against both sides. If one of them can't hit well against RHP or LHP, slide him to the bottom of the order. I'd suggest batting Daniels further down to make use of his power--though he could be a good #2. Beyond that, it almost doesn't matter at this stage. A lot of these guys are ideal #3 hitters and that's a compliment! Try moving Singleton higher than 7th--somewhere between 3rd and 5th--to take advantage of his high OBP. Overall, don't obsess about lineup order early in the season. Most of these hitters could hit anywhere from 3rd to 9th on your team, depending on the year they are in. You're still learning your team and you can tweak the lineup as you get to know the characteristics of the years your players are in.

Platoon OF vs LHP tryouts commence

Postby PaddyLanePounders » Sat Dec 24, 2005 1:14 am

Under the cloak of darkness 10 potential right fielders took to the field at Royal Stadium on Christmas Eve in a final attempt to secure a spot on the Krazy Keeshond roster.

Fitch: "Zisk's arm and range out there are a concern. Kal has the spot vs right handers locked down despite having the same issues, because of his bat and speed. Basically we want to give others a final look before deciding on who will play the OF vs LHP. The contenders are:

1) M. Webster S 2l 2e9, +0 arm, .333 ob%, .399 slg%
2) Cory Snyder R 2l 2e7 -4 arm, .284 ob%, .441 slg%
3) Bob Dernier R 2l 2e7 +0 arm, .309%, .320 slg%
4) D. Ford R 2l 3e11 -1 arm, .319 ob%, .427 slg%
5) J. Shelby S 1L 2e7 -3 arm, .290 ob%, .380 slg%
6) Richie Zisk R 2l 4e7 +0 arm, .343 ob%, .450 slg%
7) Pete Incaviglia R 2l 4e10 +0 arm, .309 ob%, .460 slg%
8) Glen Braggs R 2l 4e13 -1 arm, .306 ob%, .401 slg%
9) M. Brohard R 3l 4e9 +1 arm, .294 ob%, .396 slg%
and the still popular in Royal Stadium...
10) Al Cowens R 1l 2e6 -3 arm, .330 ob5, .459 slg%

Pitching to them during batting practice will be the 6 relief pitchers who have not yet secured a job, 2 of them will be cut. Kent Tekulve 8) has been assigned the closers job. Still looking for work are:

1) Steve Farr R E, R3, 1.32 whip
2) Gene Garber R 2R, R2, 1.27 whip
3) Bill Dawley R 1R, R3, 1.22 whip
4) D. Moore R 4l, R2, 1.22 whip
5) Don Carman L 2l, R3, 1.35 whip
6) Bob Kipper L E, R2, 1.28 whip

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated. We want to provide all the Krazies with a competitive team! Krazy Keeshond [/color:629600d4f6][/size:629600d4f6]hats will be given to all fans tonight watching the competition at Royal Stadium. They got the classic black, grey, and white, Keeshond fur attached along with those same little black beady Keeshond eyes on it. Fake of course. If we don't win often, we'll at least have fans wearing uniquely cool hats at the game. "

Keep Zisk for LF. He will be consistent. Actually, I wouldnt cut any of the RP you have. Kipper would be the least of the group, but nothing wrong with starting with all of them. You will cut 1 or 2 as the season goes on. To sum up, this is a team I would start the season with.

I have Kipper and he's got an ERA over 7! But I won't cut him cuz he's cheap and hopefully he'll get better.

0-3 after the first series. Outscored 16-3. Is it to soon to drop everyone except Ozzie? Just kidding, I've got patience. Nobody will get dropped until after tonights games.

I cringe at your lack of D, if you get no offense you will be leaving your pitching out to dry.

Get - arms in OF and gets some 1s in that infield. Evans for Daniels/Zisk would have been awesome but I doubt the other person would trade Evens.

A -5 in OF is a hidden gem in this game that few understand ;)

Porter goes AWOL to visit party buddy Jeff Reardon!

Postby PaddyLanePounders » Wed Dec 28, 2005 10:18 pm

Media: "When will Porter return?"

Fitch: "He didn't say. The only way we know he left is he and U.L. Washington were headed to Florida together. But thank GOD! U.L. changed his mind at the airport."

Media: "Why?"

Fitch: "U.L. is a 'team first' player. He knows Brett would never forgive him for deserting."

Media: "Even if he left to visit a friend in need?"

Fitch: "Well...yeah he probably would have forgiven him for that. But Porter needs to return pronto! Rich Gedmans agent has already called the Krazy Keeshond[/color:5a0842dd8d][/size:5a0842dd8d] brass looking for work. And so did somebody named "San Diego #33". He refused to divulge his real name, but Steve Farr saw him play one winter in Mexico and the guy has a gun."

Media: "Who are you leaning towards?"

Fitch: "Depends on what type of gun Diego has. I like to rabbit hunt, so if it's a rifle his chances increase. Hand guns scare me though, so he'll need to leave those in Mexico."
