What do think of my first 1969?

Postby kimkrichbaum2 » Fri Oct 26, 2007 2:49 pm

Hi,

This is my first venture back to 1969, and I wanted to get your reflections on my first team, what have I missed? I picked a Forbes team with an emphasis on LH hitting with cheap RH platoons against lefties, I upgraded this a little with Morton, because I am facing just under 50% LH pitching in my division.

Here is my link, I'd love your analysis.

The season has begun, so I won't make a lot of moves, but I want to be smarter for next time.
Thanks!

I think this is a very solid team. A couple of things to think about for next time, although I wouldn't necessarily mess with this team since it appears to have started fairly decently:

1) At 2B, Ken Boswell is a good mate for Versalles in a platoon. His defense can be a little scary, and you may want to get yourself a cheap "2" at 2B for late-inning defensive purposes, but you can't beat the offensive production you'll get at 2B with a very cheap platoon of Boswell and Versalles.

2) Pizarro will get rocked. You may want to drop Kekich for a $0.50 guy, and use the funds to upgrade Pizarro. If you go too far below the $0.90 threshold in pitching in 69, you wind up getting killed. Hamilton and Hartenstein are solid, if unspectacular.

Thanks for the tips. I looked for a reliever I could use to replace Pizarro and found one at just the right price. But as I looked for a .50er to replace Kekich, low and behold, there are no straight starters, they all have relief ratings, and they make Pizarro look like an ace!
So instead I tried to compensate by playing with my pitcher instructions, putting Pizarro on avoid RH, quick hook, and max 1-2 innings. I also put my two best starters on slow hook; with luck, that will mean less of Pizarro and Kekich.
I am platooning Versailles at 3b, not 2b, so I don't have to sweat his defense. Thanks for the tip on Boswell. I am scared to start someone with that bad Defense at 2b. Last time I did that in 2007 (Jason Smith) it hurt me significantly.
I want a 1969 dh league!

I think telling us about your first '69 is a bit personal. Perhaps you should move this to the Smack Room.

Love the team name Neon Philharmonic. "Morning Girl" is a classic tune.
