Small Ball help

Postby bkeat23 » Sun Jan 01, 2006 1:18 pm

I'm only 1 game in front of you withe a Baker squad, so my words of wisdom won't help.

Who'da thunk Mathews/Banks/Raj/Cash/Parrish/Doby would underproduce runs in a division with those parks.

Meat.....we both suck at this game

This is to address the original thread. I too see little reason to waste ballpark HR's in a smallball park.

My proposed lineup vs. righties

Gehringer
Smith
Cuyler
Chance
Meusel
Rose (Steinfeldt)
Carter
Geronimo

The rationale for the order is as follows: Gehringer leads off because of his high OBP. He has 20 gba's on his card so they get minimized there. Smith has fewer gba's and little power. Tailor made for the two slot.
Cuyler is your best hitter so he hit's third. He has 20 gba's but they are minimized a bit by Smith batting ahead of him with his good basestealing ability. Chance hits behind Cuyler. He clutches up so Cuyler doesn't get walked intentionally; I prefer the clutch guys to hit 4-7. Meusel also clutches up and has good rbi potential so he goes fifth. Rose has a bit too many walks for an ideal 6th hitter but with Carter behind him they can still be productive.

If this were my team I would probably trade Carter unless there were a lot of hr parks in the league. If there are keep him. I would have used Dempsey before Parrish though. I like Geronimo but only as a platoon player and defensive replacement. I try to pair him with Lemon as a CF platoon. Otherwise he is little better than a decent hitting pitcher vs lefties. I know others use him both ways but I wouldn't recommend it myself.

I probably would have kept Harry and not got Pete. He will drive in a lot more runs than Pete but you do have an increased injury risk with Chance, Meusel, Cuyler, Geronimo so lowering that by getting Rose is not without merit.

I do like Lemon on your team hitting 3rd or 4th against lefties instead of Geronimo hitting 8th. But it's your call, of course.

Good luck with the team.

I tried it once, finished the season on a winning streak to avoid losing 100 games

Did trade for Brown late in that league, so maybe a good omen for you :D

He's meat -- Not sure what you're doing with that 4th slot in your rotation. Why not a $6M * SP who's good in all types of parks. Gotta be better than the Ceccarelli/Leever/Merritt combo. Lemon's not a great value in Griffith, either. Any chance you could trade him since he seems to be doing OK?

Offense look OK, although you've got a couple overperforming hitters in Roseboro and Evers which means expect them to tail off eventually. Leibold isn't needed on this team... I'd try for more of a run producer in his place rather than an OBP type. Also, Morgan is not built for pitcher's parks. You'd do better with Collins or Fox or Gehringer. Maybe a trade? Maybe better luck next time.

I'm not great with mid-season moves. I usually let my teams ride good or bad from the original setup.

For what it's worth, Zippy.

thaNKS zip, mostly what I realized, although liebold is the leadoff man now with morgan about to get the axe. leever's definetly leaving. unfortunetly, this league does little or no conversing, and barely responds to trade offers. looks like dump and run is the only option. may cash lemon in too to get two griffith tailored starters. merritt pitches well at home, and there's dunn in the division too. big decision is what to do at 1b...luderus, or a platoon like white/landsford. considering mulliniks/lansford or knight at 3b too, but not enough cash to get all those guys. looks like Im on my own. can't stand watching a team sink without doing SOMETHING.

ten million dollars left after the autodraft is always a sign HAL screwed you royally. but you did get some gems in gehringer, ozzie, cuyler. candy lachance is a sick joke that should come with a free team credit.

Now all I need is 4-8 in the lineup

I got a lot of the pitching staff, so at least I only have to build in one direction. Looked at picking up one of the $10M SPs and try to score a run every now and then with mostly scrubs added to Ozzie/Chuckie/Kiki.

It didn't look pretty on paper, but it could happen if waivers fall apart for me.

I've offered the first pick around to the league.....so far no takers.
Would be better filling 2 or more spots in the lineup than any 1 player on the wire.
