Too bad there wasn't a way on the individual player setting or your manager settings where you could seed your RPs so you could get your best guys into the game more often when you want them.
Combined with, if you like, your closer and set up man in the manager's setting, you could then really manage your pen.
Using my current team as an example, I could set Campbell as my closer, Agosta as the set-up man.
First guy out of the pen is Rozema, leaving Nunez for those occasions when I've exhausted everyone else and Guetterman as my lefty specialist.
You could also adjust your pen depending on whether or not you are facing an LHB or RHB.
It also helps resolve the issue of whether or not you want a closer or want to get your best guy into the game as early as possible to put out fires.
You'd still want to let HAL manage the pen early, but once you have a feel for what you have, then you could set your pen.
Finally, it gives those managers who like the load up the pen, a reason doing so. I think one of the reasons so many of us go with one big ticket reliever and bunch of cheap guys or a bunch of cheap guys period is because you don't want a pen with say Quisenberry, Sutter, Smith, Reardon and whoever and never see one or two of the costly guys used.
if you have more control over the situations where relievers enter the game, you can go with a double closer with one guy entering the game to shut down the rallies and another to finish off the game.
Any thoughts?
