Why do you Play???......

I'm sure many people ask that question over the years in participating in TSN SOM site. I'm sure that many of you have different reason but the big reason is to win and hopefully grab the bragging rights that come with being a champion..... So I ask myself what reason(s) I would stay and play this game (ATG II) when my winning percentage doesn't allow me the opportunity to rube elbows with the big boys. I sit back and wonder why I constantly join leagues where I know I have a lower chance of winning because the opponents are the elite.....you know....the ATG statmasters who put up consistent .530 and higher winning percentages. I realize that if I had 10 teams playing at one time, then my winning percentage would increase. I realize if I didn't have little children with bedtime routine then I could manage my teams better, if I wasn't married...well I'm in Las Las Vegas and being married increases my winning percentage...lol,lol.... So as I sit and wonder it occurs that I play for the SOM community, the really nice and interesting people within our community, the escape from the everyday routine, the challenge of winning and most of all to communicate with people..... I enjoyed being here for almost 3 years. I was fortunate to receive a personal correspondence from TSN for my different events, contribution etc. They really do listen...... They promised to try really hard to come to the next Las Vegas event and were sorry they missed last March... They are looking forward to the advanced edition(ATG III) and would value all of our input when they post. We have something really special here on this site. Not only a common love for the game but the ability to express our differences and develope friendships. Some even face to face....You will not find that with other fantasy sports sites....As soon as I have this 2nd surgery on my other shoulder, then I will jump in and plan another ATG tournament....it will be last spring/summer.....Thank you Bobby

well bobby i to have made a history of jumping in with the big boys. ive played few leagues 15 completed but my winning percentage pretty high. but my title are but 1 because of the competition i play against. But i to play for the people ive chatted with and helped me and others along the way. I to would like to make the vegas trip some time. Meet you all in person. I think you are a class act and as nice as they come. I hope your surgury goes well and you get your trading arm healthy again. The people of strat are second to none as far as i'm concerned. lots of great people having a good time. I do get a little upset when up 3 to 1 in the finals and lose, but i'm sure you all have had a few of those.

10) An auction draft on Penngray's sight. That was 4 days of computing bliss for me.

9) Having your inexpensive pick perform outstanding just as you knew he would for you - you know you have your favorite - Don't you love it when you pick Sam Rice and he's hitting .400 after 40 games?

8) Hitting F5 before a frenzy, doesn't it drive you crazy when TSN is 5-10 minutes late?

7) Being in a league with Bobby, don't you find his frenzy requests a siren call even when you can't afford it?

6)Waking up to the message board to find out what Defcon level Nevdully has worked himself up to. I base that on the number of *'s and in the message. [this no longer applies as much since Nev has been taking his medication - I think Munich Man has been sending him German beer]

5) Following along with interesting teams that get posted. My favorites are when someone tries something different than the usually do. I love to watch PJ, MtheB, Nev and Ed Bazo as they manage their teams along the way. And Chief Wahoo's [now muttdoc but always Chief Wahoo to me] postings are extraordinaryily fun to read. What ever happened to the ability to call up a player and see all his teams. I loved that.

4) Playing in a league with your sister, brother in law and his brother. Doesn't really matter if you win, at family functions you can talk about how you know Sandy Koufax's strikeouts compensate for his BP homeruns.

3) Reading about all the good things happening to families as they expand as time goes by. Not sure where the time is found for that but apparently Strat players have good time management skills.

2) Watching as newbies ask for help and everyone who has knowledge shares it with others to help make them better. Diamond Dope is just tremondous as an equalizer for everyone. I always loved Treyomo's database.

1) Of course being able to create limitless pitching teams with Pete Alexander, Mordecai Brown, Jack Pfeister, Babe Adams and Ed Ruelbach! I love playing hit me if you can!!!

It is for the babes, plain and simple. There is no greater aphrodisiac than to spend the better part of an evening telling a woman all about my SOM teams. Then I get them back to my place and actually SHOW them my rosters. The only problem is that when I get home, and I am in front of the computer, my interest in sex is drowned out by my fascination with on line baseball, and I have to send the woman home by cab, so I don't miss the frenzy.

Sure I play to win but the interaction is so much better. The Frenzies are great ,especially if it's 1 of Bobby's leagues. Bobby is just the best and so many others are a close second. Getting to the playoffs is great but lately losing in tnhe semis is the norm.Overall this group is the best

I get a great deal of enjoyment out of building teams. The anticipation of the draft results, whether by pick or by HAL, then the waivers, the frenzy and the trades. Sure, I could sit at home for free and build teams with my old Strato cards from the past. But I love the element of surprise and the challenge of competing against all the other stat freaks who grew up with Strato and now get to play it on-line. I tried other on-line simulations, but I like the ability to review the cards, crunch the numbers and see if the results from the league are as predicted (which is rarely the case, but who is complaining?). And like Bobby said above, it's great doing this in a community of fellow baseball fans.
