Fenway Park Question

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Boggs is a bit difficult to draft. Brett and Schmidt usually go before him so you do have a chance to snag him in the first three rounds.

Good luck.

[quote:30b77b470c] had been thinking about Stormin' Gorman. The 1-16 for singles would help keep his average up[/quote:30b77b470c]
Note: Most of Thomas' cards contain zero bp singles. So he'll not benifit from Fenway's high SP single rating.

Wow! You're right! Who would have guessed.

Thanks, YF, for the alert!

Outta --

YF is correct about the BP singles with Thomas. Here's the link to my team where he hit .282 --- I don't think it matters with him, he's a classic "born for Fenway" kind of hitter. You study what makes him successful, and look for other hitters with similar cards, and you've got the power aspect you need for Fenway.

You don't necessarily think of guys like Oglivie, Madlock, and Thomas when you think of a championship team, but they all had monster years here.

I'd love to have Eric DAvis with one of his great cards at Fenway, especially with a couple of high OBP guys like Yount, Henderson, Boggs, Hernandez or Raines ahead of him .. I think he could tear it up in that park.

good luck, hope this helps,

Sean

The main thing you need to succeed is good cards.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I'm still considering Gorman. I usually like LH hitters at DH, but here I'm thinking of a RH slugger of the Luzinski type.

I'll post the team once it's been drafted. Still waiting for TSN to post a credit from last week. I guess it was slowed by the holidays? Anyway, it's given me plenty of time to think about my team.

thanks for the fenway help....excellant post...just started up my 4th fenway team...i have learned you have to have some decent sp's or it hopeless...i have a team that is last in its league after 112 games but has .296 team avg...and 4th in total runs...my pitching is a weak saberhagen card...a not so perfect barker card....and not enough rainy days to let a frog mate...

Thanks from me, also, for the advice. Now comes the test.

I've just drafted my first Fenway team and will post it pre-waivers. I had a tough time choosing between all the different options discussed above. I'm a bit nervous about it all--somehow Fenway still seems to me to be a tough park to master--but it should be interesting.

Maybe berniecarbo could post his new team as well. It would be interesting to compare.

If you based any of your decisions on my input, you may need to reconsider after the start my latest Fenway team has posted.

Can you believe, almost 9 runs per game after the first 6 games. Ouch!

my only change so far is i dropped ted simmons and picked up hassey....through an injury i discovered i had simmons worst card...i never have any luck with him...but he looks like a perfect fit at catcher for fenway....gaetti was a waiver choice for 3b...as i lost out on boggs in the draft...and used the extra money to get jackson...he has been a surprise....we are 3 - 3 so far...dennis martinez has been blasted twice....he will be next to go....my first fenway season he won 21 straight games...i have picked him every year since...with no luck...
